My PS3 (Slim, 320GB) wouldnt power down, so i unplugged it. When it started it asked me if i wanted to do a HDD Repair something something...

And i did, the procedure went pretty smooth and now its working again.

Why did this happen? This PS3 has never been used before. Ive only been using it for about 4 weeks.

I noticed icons took a really long time to load recently but now after the "HDD Filesystem Fix" its super fast again.

Why is this happening and will i be seeing this alot?

I may add this is the first and only time this has happened.

It will ask you to rebuild the file-system after expectantly shutting down(Yanking the power cord)

not necessarily because of the freeze

Should i be worried about the incident? (Hardware failure?) Or just a random bug freeze.

It is possible to corrupt the files on the drive when pulling the power. Kinda like pulling a drive from your pc while it is still doing something.

After your ps3 rebuilt the data base, everything should be good now. Just never pull the plug when the hdd light is flashing.

And if you are froze, just hold the power button until it shuts off.

Okay but it did just blink red for a long time, and then i pulled the plug, why did it do this? something serious or not?

If it's working fine now, I wouldn't worry about it. You said it was actually working better right?

After it rebuilt the file system it most likely fixed your problem.

it was writing information onto the hardrive when you cut its power... just a file error

I think by blinking red he means the power/standby led..
The HDD led is amber..

It was probably just a bug that caused it to freeze, either way it was because of power shortage to the hdd, userwise or system wise
