PLAY PS2 GAMES ON INTERNAL PS2 HD, ON BURNT DISC, USB AND/OR OVER LAN
by PatrickBatman
(I wrote this entire tutorial from my own ps2 modding experience & reading many different other tutorials, but never found a COMPLETE tutorial)

WHATS NEEDED:
openpsloader .8 (PS2, play HD, USB and games over LAN)
free mcboot (Exploit to make ps2 soft modded, jailbreaked whatever you want to call it)
ulaunch (PS2, file manager)
PS2 ISOS!

For making burnt ps2 games:
ESR disc patcher GUI (PC, patches .iso to play from burnt disc all burnt games require this patch on ps2 to use with ESR.elf program)
ESR.ELF (Play burnt games with esr disc patch on PS2)
Imgburn (PC, for making ps2 compliant isos, burning discs)

For internal ps2 HD (If ps2 has expansion bay):
hdl dump gui 2.1(PC, FTP games to and from PC and PS2)
Virtual CloneDrive (To mount DVD PS2 .isos)

For USB and LAN:
power defragmenter (PC, fix game loading error screens)
USBUtil v2.00 (PC, to dump iso to play properly on USB or over LAN)
PSL injector v1 (PC, some games require to work)

Most programs are here: http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=ps2.html

Have some one over at PSX-scene install mcboot exploit to memory card its free just shipping
or buy swap magic disc (i use free mcboot so wont go into swap magic)

How to map .elfs to PS2 OSDSYS (PS2 XMB basically)

Download .elf like ulaunch.elf put on usb stick/hd plug into PS2, go to Free mcboot configurator, hit O

Go to configure OSDSYS options... hit O
Pick Configure Item (which ever number comes up blank first) hit O

Hit O to name the .elf
Pick path 1 hit O
go to mass:/ look for ulaunch.elf highlight it hit o
then pick return twice
Then save CNF to whatever memory card MCboot is on like MC1 (Save CNF to MC1...)
return to browser

You can pick uLaunch in OSDSYS (browser) and use it like a file mananger to copy and paste things onto memory cards like .elfs if you prefer not to have a usb plugged in. You would just copy the .elf from USB hd/stick to MC0, MC1 etc then map it like we did Ulaunch in free mcboot configuartor.

Map ESR .elf and open ps loader0.8 .elf in free mcboot configuartor just like ulaunch.

SETTING UP PS2 NETWORK VIA ETHERNET CABLE or CROSSOVER CABLE/CONFIGURING OPEN PS2 LOADER

Plug in ethernet cable from ps2 to PC

Open ps2 loader from ps2 browser
pick settings
pick USB device start mode hit x put on auto
same for HDD and ETH (play over lan)
hit OK

Pick Network Config

Hop over to PC go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections

right click ethernet connection, properties

highlight Inernet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), properties
pick Use the following IP Address 10.1.1.1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Leave default gateway blank unless you have a router put its ip here (maybe 192.0.0.1)
pick use follwing DNS server addresses preffered 10.1.1.0, alternate 10.1.1.100
click ok, close

pick start, in search type cmd hit enter
this will bring up command prompt type ipconfig hit enter
look at Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection
Note IP4address and subnet mask, (should be what you just entered earlier)
close command prompt

Back to ps2

Under -PC-, IP put in whatever adress IP4address was on PC
Keep port at 445, leave share name PS2SMB
If you have to login to your PC with password put those creditials in USer and Password

Under -PS2-, put in ip one number higher than the one for -PC- ip
example PC ip 10.1.1.1 PS2 10.1.1.2
If you have a ps3 or printers etc on LAN dont use their ip address pick one thats available
example 10.1.1.1-255 meaning any number available from 1-255
under gateway put same ip number as PC ip (wont be online, if you go through a router you would put its gateway ip here like 192.0.0.1 or whatever)
Hit OK

PUTTING GAMES ON INTERNAL PS2 HD (NO REMOVING HD REQUIRED)

Open hdl_dump_gui-2.1 folder
copy hdld_svr.elf to usb and put on PS2 like you did Ulaunch.elf
(Open ps2 loader also has this built in but it didnt seem to work with this version of hdl_dump, but this one does)
Launch hdld_svr.elf once you got it on PS2 browser menu
(Your TV may or may not be able to render this programs graphics, mine couldnt, but I assure you its running)
Back on PC open HDLD_Gui.exe pick work on PC (Work on PS2 is to do the opposite move games from PS2 HD to PC)
Mount your PS2 Game DVD .iso with Virtual CloneDrive
Back on LordBoGaMi's Gui (HDLD_Gui.exe) put in your PS2 Ip address (example: 10.1.1.2)
under select local CD device pick cd 1 or 2 (0 is your ACTUAL drive in computer, whatever one has a size in MB thats matches your mounted game is the one you want)
Under Transfer Options make sure DVD-ROM is selected
Under Application Name put the name of the game as you want it to appear on PS2 in open ps2loader on HD
Pick start Job, wait for it to finish 20-45minutes or so.

GAMES on USB and OVER LAN

Open USBUtil 2.00 on PC, pick file
if iso on PC HD pick create game from ISO, if game is in DVD drive pick create game/iso from CD/DVD
if from cd/dvd pick extract as game
Hit create unless game needs patch (check SKSapps compatibility list for that)
From: location of ISO TO: destination USB drive (to plug into ps2 later or use plugged into PC via LAN)
or on computer HD
If you plan on just using USB plugged into PS2 just open ps2 loader on PS2

If from PC HD or USB plugged into PC then you have to create a share folder. Create a new folder on USB drive or PC HD (whichever you prefer) name it PS2SMB (like we left it in OPen PS2 loader, you can change the the name of these later if you like to the same thing)
Right click it, pick properties. pick sharing tab, pick Share...
Hit the down arrow next to Add and select Everyone then click add,
under permission level make sure it says Read or Read only, click Share.
(Move game files created above with USBUtil 2.00 into this share folder)
On PS2 start open ps2 loader games in share folder should appear under Network Games

BURNING DISC TO USE ON PS2

Use ESR patcher on PC to patch ISO first, then burn ISO with ImgBurn
Put burnt disc into ps2 disk drive, launch ESR from PS2 browser.

COMPATIBILITY

Hint: Games from USB plugged into PS2 slowest (constant choppy cinematics/stuttering), on USB plugged into PC over LAN next slowest (choppy every few seconds), straight from computer HD over lan faster, games from internal PS2 HD fastest. Games on burnt disc vary depending on how shot your ps2 laser is.

Use PSL injector v1 first on ISO before applying any other patch if it is required.
DNAS & IOPRP patches can be applied in USBUtil if needed

If any game on USB/LAN write screens, defragment the game with Power Defragmenter and/or make sure you're not using a USB drive above 1TB

Compatibility list here: http://list.sksapps.com/

Thanks ISEKO, LordBoGaMi, Ifcaro & jimmikaelkael, sksapps, JNABK, bootlegninja and everyone whoever contributed to the original PS2HD list & thanks to psx-scene who I still hold close and for softmodding my ps2 memory card way back.

Yeah it took me a few tries, but the same happened for PS3 and my computer. LAN you have to have the IP's perfect and even then you have to refresh alot sometimes so it finally picks it up.

I made my LAN setup with a STATIC ip via ethernet (so no online unless you bought a static ip hahaha, but its ps2 who cares) but once it works it should work "forever", meaning a DCHP etc wont dynamically reassign IP's and shit

EDIT: you can set it up for online but its more of a hassle than what its worth being most servers for these games arent even up or no one is on them, that is if the game even lets you go online

Yeah the share is great cause you can play games from PC or external HD as it is much faster than playing straight from USB plugged into ps2 cause ps2 uses USB 1.1, also solves PS2 slim no internal HD problem.

Another good program is winhiip. I use a USB to ide adapter to connect my hdd to the computer. It takes about 10 minutes to transfer a game.

I used to hook it up straight to my desktop computer via ide and use that program, pain in the ass. Back when I used HDLoader. Found the solution you mentioned awhile back just lost interest for awhile cause ps3 was hacked. I chose to just do the LAN cause I dont have to take drive out of ps2 and dont have to buy more hardware.

Actually credits on the SKSApps list mainly go to JNABK and everyone whoever contributed to the original PS2HD list. We mirrored that list when creating the SKSApps list before that site went down permanently. And oh was it a pain in the ass doing it as I remember helping on it.

I used it a long time ago, then eventually got sick of ps3 so went back to ps2 endeavors, I thought it may be mirrored I couldn't imagine it lasting up until now, thank you. Ill add some more credits to the tutorial.

Gave nearly all of my PS2 stuff away a while ago, including my memcard with Free MCBoot etc :(.
But i'm sure I kept a fat with a dead laser, Ethernet adaptor and a HD-Advance disc.
Will have to dig them out and have another play one day :)
