Well great news for those with a vast collection of PS2 Games burned onto CDR or DVDR, as now the Cobra USB team has updated their dongle firmware to v3.2 and it now allows support for playing your PS2 backup discs directly from your PS3 Blu-Ray drive. -- It also makes original PS2 games region-free (which is about time, I always hated that lock out in the PS3 console!)

05 - 09 - 2011 // Cobra Firmware v3.2 // More Features and bugs fixed.
- Added support for PS2 backups in optical discs (CD-R/DVD+-R)
- PS2 original games are now region free too.
- Fixed a bug that caused incompatibility with several PS2 backups in iso format.
- Fixed some remaining PAL/NTSC problems in PSX games.
- Cobra USB Manager will output now a mds file too when dumping a dual layer DVD or PS2-DVD.
This file is not used by Cobra at all, but it can be used for burning to a dual layer DVD+-R while keeping original layer structure.
This is mandatory when burning dual layer PS2 dvd's.
This little dongle, just keeps on getting better and better.

Nope only on the launch FAT consoles with the EE and GS (and the full PS2 Rambus memory), or the later just after launch one with just the GS and a software EE emulator.

Well that because there is no PS2 hardware inside the newer PS3 consoles. -- I am shocked it plays at all, I thought for sure only PS2 games worked on PS3 models with backwards compatible hardware in it.

I didn't think they would play at all either but they play choppy that's all. Cobra is doing a great job in my book , I am glad they are doing what they are doing.

All models of PS3 can play PS2 games, the difference is; the later models (without EE/GS) run with pure software only - Sony's own PS2 emulator that they "claim" to have given up on a couple years back. Cobra announced they had implemented that in the Cobra USB, though it will be buggy and very slow for the vast majority of titles.

I can confirm that ALL of the issues apart from the loading of the Rayman 2 beta level upon completion of the game with obtaining more than 90% of the 800 lums, have been resolved.
This includes games such as GTA: San Andreas, Gran Turismo 4, The Getaway and even the removal of the weird graphical glitches during the loading of Rayman 2: Revolution NTSC on a PAL console.
Great work Cobra!
Hopefully even more people will purchase this amazing product.

I have came SO CLOSE to buying one of these. I can't stand it. I bought a Teensy 2.0 cause all the ++ were gone and then I bought an off brand card reader that works really well, and I have stayed on 3.41 Hermes from the beginning, but I am REALLY tempted to buy one of these and every time I turn around they are updating the damn thing, it's just SOOOO tempting. It really is driving me crazy. I got SO many PS2 backups and PS1 backups that I want to play but I can't cause nobody has implemented it into a CFW yet. I ask the question, WHY has nobody stepped up and implemented at least PS1 games into a CFW ?? Forgive me for not knowing, but I thought that the Sony emu even comes on a slim ???
I know as soon as I buy a Cobra a CFW will come out with the same features, but not until then of course. :dispirited:

What about BC by SOFTWARE ???
I have a ceche01 80gb that run ps2 ntsc original games without any ps2 hardware in it.
I hope COBRA remember this and built a better way to play ps2 in this fat ps3, because its emulator is really bad.
Or is cobra using this emulator??

Well the A B models (NTSC) had the full EE / GS and RAM inside them, basically a complete PS2 Slim added onto the PS3 motherboard.
The later models the E (NTSC) had only the GS, with the EE emulatored in software.
After that G and up only had PS3 hardware, no direct way to run PS2 gamesm, at least not from Sony's controlled point of view!

IDK, I think it's time for me to get one of these, they're not that expensive and the support is excellent. PsOne emulation on my laptop is getting old

I'm surprised the built in PSX Emulator hasn't been cracked/ripped so we use it jailbreaked PS3's yet.
I think there was work done on getting the official PSX emu running before the cobra dongle came out.

Hello.. I understand that but.. according to the page 1:

I am not sure why he said that ? Hmm.

The slim doesn't have the necessary hardware to play PS2 games fully, sure they may load but they definitely wont be playable so no, PS2 don't work on slim with the cobra device..
