Not 100% positive this is the right place, but I am on rebug firmware, and since I'm not sure of the issue, I posted it here.

System details:

Rebug 4.30.1

System QA'd - YES

NON-downgraded ps3 (purchased new from retail store with 3.41 and updated to cfw myself. First to 3.55 kmeaw, then when it was released rebug 4.30.1)


I have been on 4.30.1 since it was released. Has worked flawlessly. Everything booted and ran exactly the way I wanted it to.
All packages, MM, reactpsn, emu's, everything perfect.

Since it was only a 160gb, I decided recently to upgrade.

So, I purchased a 1tb seagate momentus LP drive.

Used the backup/restore utility on xmb to backup to external hard drive.

Installed the new HDD, it formatted and installed properly. (had to reinstall 4.30.1 in the process, which went flawlessly)

Back into the system, ran the backup/restore utility again, and the system restored all of my old settings and data.

Try to run games, and get the dreaded 80010017 error.

WTF?

Nothing has changed, except for the hard drive.

Not everything I try to run does this, I'd say 50% run,. the other 50% give the error.

Not sure what's happening.

I even tried a full format of the HDD and system restore to factory.

Then, restore the backup data again. Same issue.

Everything worked perfectly before I backed up the data.

Did something get messed up in the process?

Or does the backup utility specifically NOT back up something I need?

Not sure what to try next.

BTW - Yes, I did hook the drive up to the PC and test it. It is fine.

Edit: BTW - this is NOT for MM. This for now is on pkg files installed via XMB.
Have not tested MM yet.

Installed the pkg before backup/restore. Worked.
Changed HDD, restored system. Now doesn't work.

What am I missing?

EDIT 2 -
Formatted/restored the ps3 again. Back to factory.
Ran the restore utility again.
Thsi time, instead of restoring cleanly, it said something like "Data belonging to unregistered user found" and restored with an extra profile. I am user 1, and the 2nd is *user1.
Weird. However, when I try out one of the programs that was giving an issue before, now it loads.
I deleted the extra weird account, the program still loads. So I'm off to try the others. I will update you all when I'm done.

EDIT 3 -
OK, appears to be a license issue.
Everything works perfectly upon the first initial restore.
After I load my USB with my raps and edats from the backup of my HOME folder, and run reactpsn, the content no longer works.

So, my system apparently doesn't like something about my backup up license info.

I can try a fresh restore of the system, insert my backup up home folder into the fresh new one, and see if it works then. But something tells me it won't.

Unfortunately, I can not start from scratch, just tried that. Somehow, I got banned from PSN. Interesting, because the only time I've EVER been on was to activate 1 file, and get a valid act.dat.
Since then, have never been on since. (Until I just tried to start from scratch and do it all over again - yes, i'm using rebugs updated spoofer)

Ah, hell.

Also interesting, I now also have an act.dat and act1.dat in my home folder. I am a little new to all of that but I heard so many good things about rebug which is why I decided to switch.

I have been using for hours for a response to my questions but I can't find anything.

What I want to know is that if I switch from rogero to rebug, what will happen to all save games and user accounts? Is everything going to remain in place? I am asking this because I am currently playing final fantasy 13 and it's a bitch when it comes to save games. So I am wondering whether I should first finish the game.

The guy who downgraded my PS3 in the first place gave me 2 files to switch from rogero 4.40 to the newest rebug

- down425to355.PUP
- REBUG_4.41.2_LITE_PS3UPDAT.PUP

Is that all I need for the switch? I know that they have to be renamed to PSUPDAT but I also read about toggle qa somewhere but I don't really understand what it does or at which point I would have to activate it.

And what's the difference between the down425to355.PUP and the 999 downgrader? I upgraded a no Wifi/CardReader 20GB Launch PS3 running kmeaw 3.55 to REBUG_4.41.2_LITE Firmware using the following procedure:

1. Enabled Toggle QA using toggle_qa.pkg; followed instructions and it worked

2. Updated the CFW from 3.55 to Rebug 4.41.2 LITE using REBUG_4.41.2_LITE_PS3UPDAT.PUP from XMB (no recovery mode).

3. Installed REBUG-TOOLBOX-02.01.02.pkg

The CFW update seems to have been successful because the XMB Menu and MM are reporting FW version 4.41. And of course I was greeted by REBUG when it rebooted :-)

However, REBUG-TOOLBOX-02.01.02 launches with a this message: "Your System is not running on compatible REBUG configuration!"

Oddly, REBUG TOOLBOX reports FW version 4.30

So the FW version reported by the XMB and REBUG TOOLBOX do not match.

FIX ATTEMPTED:
- Run Rebug_Update_Package_0.2_4.30.x.pkg as if I were updating from 4.30 to 4.41 Rebug.

FIX OUTCOME: The Rebug_Update_Package_0.2_4.30.x.pkg launches, but returns to XMB after about five seconds and no prompts are shown.



Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Found a seller who had 2 ps3 320gb 3k's locally.

Messaged him as to the condition, he responded that all was ok, they just won't turn on.
They were complete, and included everything.

Perfect! I need the bd-rom, as well I could use the drives for extra storage, as well as keep some of the good parts around if I ever needed them.

Talked to him on the phone, made a plan to meet.

Before we met, he filed an unpaid item case against me. I called him, got no response. I ended up calling ebay for clarification. They said he used an "auto-tool" and it was likely done without his awareness.

OK, cool, I shot him a message via ebay as to the issue, and asked him to resolve it.

Met him this afternoon, seemed like a really cool dude.
Talked to him for a few, got the ps3's from him, they were in a box together, visual inspection at first glance seemed ok, so I paid him. I did NOT pick each one up individually to weigh them or anything. (my mistake, as I come to find out - you can see where this is going....)

They guy even gives e his personal ps3, and asks me to check it out, as he knows nothing about them. Doesn't use them at all.

So I take it, and agree to meet with him tomorrow.

Get home, open the box, and take the ps3's out. They're light as well. (I have not TOUCHED his at all, just my 2 3k's I got from him)

Take the screws out, they won't open. Turns out they were both GLUED shut. Not a good sign....

Pry them open, they both have a mobo, but that's it. They were filled with HAND CUT PLASTIC PARTS made to fill the insides out, and add a little weight. Everything else was missing.
No bd-rom although one had bdrom parts inside, no fan, so heatsink, no mobo shields, no hard drives, nothing. Just a bunch of thin plastic cut to fill the shape of the inside of a playstation.
Holy hell!

I IMMEDIATELY message the guy, telling him there's a problem. He immediately goes into "no refunds, sorry"

I point out to him that both his auction, as well as messages prior to my winning of said auction, stated they were complete. But that instead they were mostly-empty shells with cut plastic inside.

He says at first he is happy to refund, and I go out to meet him. 3 hours later, he isn't responding to texts, calls, and never showed.

So I open a claim on ebay as to "not as described".

He finally messages me, won't close the unpaid items case, wants me to pay him AGAIN to close the case so I can save my account standing (really) AND return his ps3 or I will face repercussion.

WTF????

Condorstrike, a well-known homebrew developer, has released a homebrew game for the PS3 named Pointman: The Akkadian Wars, which is released as a "proof-of-concept" due to the developer having to deal with real-life events, which is now the case for most of the scene developers.
