Condorstrike, a well-known homebrew developer, has released a homebrew game for the PS3 named Pointman: The Akkadian Wars, which is released as a "proof-of-concept" due to the developer having to deal with real-life events, which is now the case for most of the scene developers.
HI GUYS, IT’S BEEN HARD FINDING TIME FOR THE PS3 WITH SO MUCH GOING ON AT WORK AND HOME, THAT’S THE REASON I DECIDED TO RELEASE THE POINTMAN BETA AS A (POC). WISH I HAD MORE TIME TO COMPLETE IT AND POLISH IT, ANOTHER REASON IS THAT THE PS4 IS AROUND THE CORNER, AND I’M ALSO MAKING A PC GAME.

Pointman: the Akkadian Wars - The game is a throwback to 80′s and 90′s styling and music, all of it was built for you guys as a proof of concept that with some time and creativity cool things can be accomplished. This game will run in CFWs 3.55 and 4.xx. There will be bugs! Powerups are mostly disabled, and there’s a glitch on some textures loading, but it’s rare. I do a small homage to the scene in the credits, but you’ll have to finish the level first, good luck with that…lol, forget about HARD mode, even I can’t finish it, so use EASY.
If you let the MAIN MENU run, you’ll get to see the story, 80′s style.

Basically, avoid the Aliens and drive the ship or mech until you’ve covered the map sectors, scan artifacts if possible, and grab powerups, but then again, they’re disabled.

CHANGELOG:

POINTMAN (POC) BETA V0.987:

SINCE THIS IS A POC ALL I CAN SAY IS, HOPE YOU ENJOY IT… CAW!

Video released recently on Youtube, shows some weird hardware emulating the PS3 hard drive

Its called haxckODE, but from the video it seems to be hardware that replaces the PS3 internal hard drive, and is demoed on a newer 4K super-slim model, which shows it switching games via the 'themes'

Not much is known, the actual team is still unknown, but from video it looks like its from an Spanish-Speaking country.

The video goes thru alot of steps to make itself look like its not fake, from hooking up the wires to tv, to panning around showing you everything, to having the PS3 all stripped down so you can see there is no extra stuff hooked up that is missing from the camera view.

The video is long, 16 minutes, it first shows you it as a stock PS3 running v4.41 using its own internal HDD, then the 'hacker' replaces the internal HDD with a small blackboard that ends in USB port, and that inturn is connected to another port with usb, power, and another small PCBoard is then plugged into connector, of which then a old HDD is plugged into, which is start of the weird part, it is taped up, and only has power running to it, and a small red/black plug to the rest of the hardware, no direct IDE or SATA cable.

Then the PS3 is powered back up, and he demos how its still on v4.41, but for some reason the HDD is no longer an 40gb hdd, but only a 16gb drive, so its it running on a flash chip, not an external HDD? -- Then he demos how switching the 'theme' gives him a different game to play which he launchs and demos a bit. -- There is NO BLU-RAY DRIVE at all in this whole operation, its not even connected, so really calling it an ODE is wrong, its more of an 'theme' exploit to switch games that are stored on the HDD, are they repackaged PSN games? -- Why all this 'hardware' if its just an exploit? -- Why the small HDD size?

This video opens up alot of questions, of course the biggest one is it just a huge very well planned FAKE???

Team REBUG have released a bug-fixed version of their LITE firmware, which is their take on the simple, DEX-free (debug firmware) custom firmware, which fixes the dreaded package installlation error, whereby CFW PS3 users who haven't QA-flagged their systems cannot install any PS3 PKG at all, thus rendering the feature broken, until now, as shown below in the changelog:

This has been completely addressed and there is no more issues.

It is recommended for everyone that has already installed 4.41.1 to install this new PUP just incase you deactivate your QA and leave yourself in the chicken/egg state explained above.
Sorry for the inconvenience guys.. Enjoy.. :)

Q: WHAT IS D-REX EDITION?
A: Basically D-REX EDITION is REX EDITION that can be installed on a REAL DEX or coverted DEX PS3 System.

Q: WHAT IS LITE EDITION?
A: LITE EDITION is straight up CEX/RETAIL PS3 firmware it has NO DEX/DEBUG features.. AT ALL.

Q: WHY MAKE LITE EDITION?
A: Because at the moment 4.4x DEX firmware is not in the wild and we 100% refuse to make a version hybrid (using 4.30 DEX files in 4.41). There is approx. 70 files that need to replaced in CEX firmware for it to become a complete DEX firmware. About 40 of those files at least have been updated in the CEX firmware since 4.30 (if you look at 4.40 PS3PATCH.PUP) and more again with 4.40 and 4.41. With so many file changes it makes a nice recipe for instability.. ;)

NOTE: Remember to update to the latest Rebug Toolbox included in the LITE EDITION firmware.

Enjoy

This just in, from Wololo's PSP blog, a way has been found to run PSP games that been remasted for PS3 usage, but on OFW not CFW!

Here is the juicy details from Wololo's blog:

Quote:

I was contacted by scene member CapetLeVrai who apparently found a way to run those psp isos on a non hacked PS3 running the latest official firmware 4.41.

The current technique will probably not blow your mind for now, as it requires you to own both a hacked and a non hacked PS3, but it could open huge opportunities in the near future if the right people decide to look into that. The basic idea is that after being installed on a CFW PS3, the iso can be transferred to the OFW PS3 through the integrated Data Transfer Utility, and will still run perfectly fine.

Enjoy the video, in French. If you are able to confirm this and post a video on your own, please do credit CapetLeVrai for this discovery, as, as far as I know, nobody else had found that (at least publicly) before him.

Quote:

 How it works

The PS3 allows you to copy data from one PS3 to another, usually when you want to transfer all your existing content in the case you bought a new PS3. This is done by connecting your two PS3s with an ethernet cable. What CapetLeVrai did, which sounds simple enough but appears to work, was to install the game on his hacked PS3, then copy the entire content of his hacked PS3 to the OFW one with the Data Transfer Utility, and the hacked iso then simply accepted to run on the OFW PS3.

Please note I haven’t confirmed myself because I’m beyond lazy and don’t want to lose my OFW PS3′s content (copying from your hacked PS3 to your unhacked PS3 will erase the previous content!) but from what I can tell this is legit.

Now, why would it be interesting if this requires a hacked PS3 in the first place? Well, it shows that once installed, the game seems to be able to bypass the standard DRM security checks on OFW that should prevent it from running in the first place. Or, rather, that the hack perfectly tricked the OFW PS3 into believing the game was legally acquired. Which means that if people had a way to run a package installer on official firmware PS3s, there could be a way to install and run psp isos (and, who knows, PSP homebrews) on the latest PS3 Official firmware.

Now the big question of the day, is it true and does it really work on OFW?

If it turns out to be confirmed later, it sure will make for some exciting news today in the normally-slow 'PS3 Scene' world :)
This only applies for Canadian users.

If you had a PlayStation Network account, a Qriocity account, or a Sony Online Entertainment account at any time before May 15, 2011, you could get benefits from a class action settlement...

Here are the full details:

 LEGAL NOTICE

If you had a PlayStation Network account, a Qriocity account, or a Sony Online Entertainment account at any time before May 15, 2011, you could get benefits from a class action settlement.

A settlement has been reached with the Sony Entities in a class action lawsuit about the illegal and unauthorized attacks in April of 2011 on the computer network systems used to provide the PlayStation Network ("PSN"), Qriocity, and Sony Online Entertainment ("SOE") services (the "Intrusions"). The settlement provides benefits to eligible Canadian consumers who file a valid claim.

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice will have a hearing to decide whether to give final approval to the settlement, so that the benefits can be issued. The included consumers have legal rights and options, such as excluding themselves from the settlement, or alternatively, objecting to and/or submitting a claim for benefits from the settlement.

The Sony Entities deny any claims of wrongdoing in this case, and the settlement does not mean that the Sony Entities violated any laws or did anything wrong.

WHO'S INCLUDED?

The Class includes everyone who resides in Canada who had a PSN account, a Qriocity account, or an SOE account at any time prior to May 15, 2011.

WHAT DOES THE SETTLEMENT PROVIDE?

There are various benefits, depending in part on what type of account(s) you had:

Inactive PlayStation Network Accountholders:

If you used any of your PSN accounts any time from January 1, 2011 through May 14, 2011, but you did not use them after that through January 24, 2013 because of the Intrusions, you can get a payment equal to any balance of paid virtual currency in your account wallet if that balance is at least U.S. $2.

Active PlayStation Network Accountholders:

a) If you paid other companies for certain media services that you could not access through the PSN during the PSN outage from April 20 through May 14, 2011, you can get 3 free PS3 themes or a 50% discount on PlayStation Plus for 3 months. Up to U.S. $100,000 in total benefits will be available, on a first-come, first-served basis.

b) If you participated in the PSN "Welcome Back" program that followed the April 2011 service outage, you can get either a free game for your PS3 or PSP, 3 free PS3 themes, or a 50% discount on PlayStation Plus for 3 months. If you did not participate in the PSN "Welcome Back" program, you can submit a claim for two of the above benefits. Up to U.S. $1 million in these benefits will be available, on a first-come, first-served basis; claimants who file claims thereafter can get a 50% discount on PlayStation Plus for one month.

Qriocity Accountholders:

If you were not a PSN accountholder but you had a Qriocity account at the time of the April 2011 service outage, you can get one free month of Music Unlimited.

Inactive Sony Online Entertainment Accountholders:

If you used any of your SOE accounts at any time from January 1 through May 14, 2011, but you did not use them after that through January 24, 2013 because of the Intrusions, you can get a payment equal to any balance of paid virtual currency in your account wallet if that balance is at least U.S. $2.

Active Sony Online Entertainment Accountholders:

You can get a deposit of U.S. $4.50 in "Station Cash" into that account, usable for SOE digital products and services. Deposits will be reduced proportionally if total deposits exceed U.S. $240,000 in benefits.

Identity Theft Reimbursement Claims:

If you incurred out-of-pocket charges due to actual identity theft and submit documentation proving by a preponderance of the evidence that the intrusion(s) directly and proximately caused the identity theft, you can submit a claim for reimbursement up to $2,500. Reimbursements will be reduced proportionally if the amount payable on all valid claims exceeds U.S. $90,000.

HOW DO YOU ASK FOR BENEFITS?

Eligible Class Members can call 1-877-389-4482 or go to www.PSN-SOE-CanadaSettlement.comfor a claim form, then fill it out, sign it, include the documentation it requires, and mail it to the address on the form. Deadlines to make a claim for benefits will start 60 days after the settlement becomes effective.

DO I HAVE A LAWYER IN THIS CASE?

The Court has appointed Bryan C. McPhadden, McPhadden Samac Tuovi LLP of Toronto, Ontario; Stephen Osborne, Merchant Law Group LLP of St. Catharines, Ontario; Careen Hannouche, Lauzon Bélanger Lespérance Inc. of Montreal, Quebec; and David Assor, Lex Group Inc. of Montreal, Quebec as "Class Counsel" to represent you and other Class Members. You will not be charged for these lawyers. If you want to be represented by your own lawyer in this case, you may hire one at your own expense.

YOUR OTHER OPTIONS.

If you do not want to be legally bound by the settlement, you must opt out by May 20, 2013, or you will not be able to sue, or continue to sue, the Sony companies regarding the legal claims this settlement resolves, ever again. If you opt out, you cannot get any benefits from the settlement. If you do not opt out, you will be able to participate in the settlement if it is approved by the Court. If you do not opt out, you may also object to the settlement by May 20, 2013. The detailed notice explains how to exclude yourself or object.

The Court will hold a hearing in this case, known as Maksimovic v. Sony of Canada Ltd. et al., Court File No. CV-11 425487-00CP, on June 10, 2013, to consider whether to approve the settlement, including Class Counsel fees, costs, taxes and disbursements of U.S. $265,000. You or your own lawyer may ask to appear and speak at the hearing at your own cost, but you do not have to. For more information, go to the website shown above, which has a copy of the detailed notice.
Estwald has released a new version of 'Iris Manager' for the PS3, featuring improvements to the 'File Manager' and a new Disc-less mode that runs games from a simulated disc in XMB.

If you didn't know, Iris Manager by 'Estwald' and 'D_Skywalk' is an open source manager for the PS3 made with Homebrew tools. It is a port of HermesManager based on PSLIGHT, Tiny3D, PS3Soundlib and OpenPS3FTP.

The new v2.35/v2.36 add improvements to the "Archive Manager", a new procedure "Write HTAB", and a new disc-less mode.

Here's the full changelog:

Quote:

What's new on Iris Manager 2.36

- Fixed an issue that occurs when copying files, because the bookstore Tiny3D forms a polygon packet too long hanging GPU console from TTF.

- Fixed color interposing (background color) with another texture (TTF character colored) so that breaks the list, forcing shader change (as happened with the old printing routines characters)

PS: Yes, it is a rare problem that copying files crashes the GPU

What's new on Iris Manager 2.35

- Ported all console display to support UTF8 instead of ANSI

- Added improvements to "File Manager": ability to edit LV2, RAM, select a piece of code, copy it (max 1MB), paste it on other place(file/memory), use it to find matches (max 512 bytes) or create a new file with that content.

- Added procedure Write HTAB (thanks to Miralatijera for the assembly code) to make LV2 executable and other stuff [+ laughs]

- Added Disc-less mode that runs games from a simulated disc in XMB, using BD EMU, patched explore_plugin and patched libfs, has successfully launched all the games I've tried, without addressing /APP_HOME in CFW 4.40 Miralatijera.

Requirements:

- Modules explore_plugin and libfs must be patched.
- A USB flash drive, memory card or USB storage device connected (recommended method)
- On Iris Manager, press START to "Global Options", go to "Tools" and select where it says " With/Without BDVD Controller" the "Disc - Less payload" option.
- Restart Iris Manager and select a game: to have a better compatibility, use BD EMU with patched libfs.sprx or patched explore_plugin.sprx.

Virtual mounting system:

There are three ways to get the disc mounted:

1. On Iris Manager or XMB, insert a USB flash drive, USB storage device, or memory card, and then launch the game.

2. Before to run Iris Manager, insert a USB flash drive, USB storage device or memory card, then run Iris Manager, select a game and the disc will be mounted on XMB automatically.

3. Without a USB device or memory card: Run Iris Manager, select a game and on XMB, run another application, such as "Homelaunc1", that get in and get out quickly. With that, the game will be mounted on XMB.

Notes:

This has been tested in CFW 4.40 Miralatijera: in theory, It should work on other CFW, since the code was created considering the portability (ability to locate the code on any place and re-define the necessary calls).

Notice again that there is no support for those who have a broken BD-Drive or simply do not have a working lector. (I'm really sorry, but I have no technical resources to find out what's wrong and it's an achievement that I have made this in that way [+ laughs])

Obviously, this is a full disc-less mode: you can't pretend to insert a real disc with the syscalls simulating another, so you must restart the PS3. It's compatible with the PSX ISOS from Iris Manager.

That's right, two GUI's for you to convert PSP ISOS to Minis based on PSP2PS3, one by Aldostools and the other one by the devs over at BiteYourConsole...
If you didn't know, PSP2PS3, originally by 'szczuru_pasja', is a tool that allows you to convert PSP game ISOs to 'PSP minis', so they can be playable on your modded PS3.

Well, other PS3 devs have modified the tool and/or have added a GUI to it, mainly to simplify the conversion process.

- First, PSP2PS3 "mod" by Aldostools, which tries to streamline the process of conversion of PKG/ISO/CSO/PBP to PSP package for PS3.

v1.7.4a adds a GUI with drag & drop support and a file browser (pic above):
PSP2PS3 1.7.4a "mod"

Based on the awesome scripts created by szczuru, and the tools created by Pink1, arnold (swapperneger), zecoxao, tpu, a friend that modded fake_np.exe, among others devs. This "mod" tries to streamline the process of conversion of PKG/ISO/CSO/PBP to PSP package for PS3. Latest version has improved compatibility thanks to a new process for resigning EBOOT suggested by Celebratesparta.

Changes in v1.7.4a "mod by aldostools"

- Added a GUI with drag & drop support and a file browser
- Enabled Remote Play in the PARAM.SFO of the template files

- And, we also have "Bite", the GUI by italian devs over at biteyourconsole.net.

Here's the translated info for v1.4 (Extreme Edition):
After a very short time since our last release we have decided to release to the public a new version of our tool for Windows PCs called Bite, to version 1.4 (Extreme Edition).

The tool allows you to convert and transform your files with a simple click, and in turn transform your PSP games in PKG and launch on PS3 with CFW.

This new update adds lots of news! Now the meter will be installed from the setup, no more folders improvised, we have integrated a video player, a mp3 player, in fact clicking on the button shaped like a musical note we can load our favorite song, and many other innovations that we’re going to see here followed by the changelog.

NOTE: We recommend always delete the files created by a previous session in order to avoid conflicts in the execution of various scripts.

Changelog v1.4 Bite
• Integrated PBP unpacker utility

Thanks Francesco Lanzillotta

Changelog 1.7.4 PSP2PS3

• Added a new method to Resign suggested by Celebratesparta @ ps3hax. Thanks to @ Romangelo ps3hax for the clear tutorial.
• CSO2ISO now called SIGN_EBOOT.bat instead of 1b. ISO2EBOOT.bat
• SIGN_EBOOT.bat now EBOOT.BIN extracted from the file NP.ISO, decrypts EBOOT.BIN, resigna ‘s EBOOT.BIN EBOOT.BIN and adds, boot.bin and blank OPNSSMP.BIN return to’ ISO
• Added into: WQSG_UMD_R31.exe, eboot_decrypt.exe tools folder of the
Chinese PS3 dev 'ccregame' has released a new version of ReActPSN featuring the PS3 EDAT 4.0 fix.

Check out the roughly translated info and changelog for the just released v2.25:

Quote:

1: Triangle crack mode support to CFW4.40.
[The triangle key] ordinary crack mode, do not modify the version number of the first crack full EBOOT.BIN running game, the second to break the rest of the game sprx edat.
The triangle key + L1] downgrade to 3.41 crack, the EBOOT key lib ver downgrade, edat4.0 downgrade.
SFO is rather special, recognize only the installation of the version number the low version CFW crack high version of the game, first install the the a downgrade PARAM.SFO the pkg EBOOT to run after the break.
[Triangle key + L2] downgrade to 4.20.
Crack the game this way, starting from the earliest version 2.20, has been running on 4.20 CFW, do not need to re-signature.

2: [key], automatic vsh patch function supports import authorization, support to CFW4.40.
Support of 3.41 and 3.55 CFW and OFW, support CFW 3.60 more.

3: [Right] eight seconds CEXDEX conversion, support to CFW4.30.
Only 3.55CEX before mandatory set QA, the rest of CFW detection QA, QA will not convert.

I do not know R4.40v1.03 the sony reasons, or roger reasons, the converted must become brick, the software does not support the 4.40 conversion.

4: That annoying boot repair.
The PS2 conversion speeds of up to 12M / s, the present situation is the most convenient and simple conversion method.
The import authorization also added a progress bar.
