Tech blogs are reporting that Sony is testing a new PSN layout to be launched soon that revamps the whole look and feel. Maybe to bring it inline with the way the 360 has recently changed its look and feel after the Kinect launch. Hopefully someone with developer access will leak out screenshots of what the new PSN layout looks like, but it looks like that remaining days of old PSN pictured are soon going to a history item!
Sony is developing a PlayStation Network design upgrade that could transform the online environment into a more image-driven layout along the lines of Xbox Live and Steam, Reg Hardware has learned.
Many PSN users say the current PSN is far too text heavy, so Sony is now market-testing a new design that de-clutters the screen using what sources familiar with the new look call "an aesthetic layout with logically marked sections and rolodex lists".
The revamped PSN also packs a new, live search method with results appearing as users enter characters rather than head off to a separate text-entry page.
The movies section has been rebuilt as an IMDB-style database. When you select a film, for example, key details appear on the right of the screen, such as leading actors. Clicking through will take you to the actor's page, where you can see all of their movies.
The same exploration approach is taken with games, categorised by genre, publisher, developer and so on.
Sony is readying a 'deals of the week' section too, making it easier to pick up bargains.
It also appears the company is planning to throw out the blue colour of the current skin and opted for ultra bright colours on a black background.
In revamping PSN, Sony may be hoping to claw back customer trust lost during the hacking fiasco, which saw unhappy gamers impatiently trade PS3s for Xbox 360s.
Perhaps Sony is eager to perfect its online store in preparation of the PlayStation 4 or 3.5, rumoured yesterday to be entering production by the end of the year.
If this does happen, it is really going to put the current CFW users behind, hopefully the new exploits will get released before the big v4.0 change!
I personally didn't find it that taxing to look at, what pissed me off and still does when they do it is when they move shit around for no fucking reason. I tried purchasing the new Killzone 3 maps recently and my brother had to guide me to where the item was on the store because they decided to move everything around meaning I couldn't find it.
I don't mind the look so much, but the layout is fucking horrible.
That's what I'm talking about mate, the layout. It's clunky, counter-intuitive, slow and downright ugly. At least... the layout on the PAL store is a damn disgrace, but the layout on the NTSC/US store is muuuuuuuuuuuuuch nicer. Damn Sony for that.

Yeah mate, I used to have Japanese and American accounts back before Sony started banning and suing anything that moved. And I agree 100% there, the US layout was much nicer as was the Japanese (apart from the fact I couldn't read it...lol).
We as Europeans have been getting fucked from the start (as well as the console downgrade), they always took ages to change things on the European side as if the execs took care of US/C/JP then turned round and said "well I guess we should update the EU side now then".
They've got a lot of work to do in my opinion anyway...
Exactly! It really does seem like Europeans have been getting the short end of the stick right from the start, and sadly the short end is also covered in shit. Our store selection is terrible, navigation is a chore, we got the machine last - which meant less features than those of the the original launch machines from America and Japan. It really is like Sony just said "Eu....rope...? Ehhhh, fine, ok.. if we're forced... *sigh*"
I still envy the Japanese store though. Their selection of titles, both PSN and Classics, is jaw dropping and massively "envy!" inducing
