VIDEO: Retail PS3 Slim running v3.66 CFW
The Spanish 'scene' is on FIRE, burning HOT these days. Now the same person that figure out how to 'downgrade' PHAT v3.66 consoles has released his own CFW!
And guess what, it is the first v3.66 CFW! -- Huh? -- Yep, that is right! -- Now please RE-READ the next line "one thousand times" when your brain is working again!
Download links removed, as it is basically useless, more like POC, so DON'T install it! -- IT DOES NOT RUN ANY HOMEBREW OR BACKUPS!
Please read the above statement again!
Dospiedras1973, and member over at the EOL.net forums who has already managed to do the downgrade PHAT consoles recently using INFECTUS, has released a firmware that allows PS3 to upgraded version 3.66 with full Debug options!
Some clarifications are listed by the developer:
■ Only users 3.55 (does not matter if CFW or OFW)
■ There is no turning back, pass over to 3.66 with all that implies. Only you can downgrade to INFECTUS (dospiedras method).
■ No syscalls / payloads ... so that the burden of copies is disabled. For what is agreed is a firmware guy ... GeoHot.
■ The installed on 3.55 homebrew will stop working.
■ No package installer (for now).
■ Full access to PSN.
■ Works on both Fat and Slim (as shown in the video), no tricks hardware and could suggest a user in the comments.
From the rough translation above it looks like he has taken the recently leaked Debug v3.66 firmware and found a way to make it install on retail v3.55 consoles, but those running higher firmwares would have to downgrade first. -- But again, what is the point, nothing works, but sadly I think now it is step in the WRONG direction!

NEWS UPDATE:
I been chatting with the team behind Codename: REBUG and Cyberskunk has ripped this sucker apart, and will be posting an update at the end of this thread, which basically outlines that this release is really NOTHING AT ALL, and they have infact done it many times themselves and never released it as it uses no real useful function!

After ripping this PUP apart it appears the rundown will be VERY VERY SHORT.
This is RETAIL OFW 3.66 with just a 'few' of the files from DEBUG firmware.
vsh.self
index.dat
version.txt
ALL OTHER FILES ARE RETAIL INCLUDING COREOS
If you still, Sorry dumb enough to go searching for the download and installing it, they you are not smart enough to be part of the 'scene' -- Rude, but true!

Like you said; what's the point if nothing works? Honestly.... you might as well just update to 3.66 OFW -- it would be exactly the same, only less heart-wrenching pain by not showing you your installed homebrew but unable to run it Still, it IS a step in the right direction. Sadly it's a small step and I fear we're going to see a LOT of people installing this and then complaining.

Congrats on them making and sharing this monstrosity of a firmware. Dunno what else to say really, other than steer clear of this homebrew killing PUP.

Oh lord I really hope people heed the warning on this one otherwise there will be a shit storm as Sab said.
Still, progress is progress, gotta admire the spirit.

Yeah, trouble is I don't think peope read "warning" labels.
It does give you access to PSN, but then so does the ORIGINAL STOCK v3.66 firmware.
I do wonder what would happen if you did a QA Flag enable BEFORE, installing this, as there is reports QA flag stays set after upgrading the firmware.
I also wonder WHY the "package installer" is missing, as it NOT missing on a real DEBUG machine.
And we back to the problem of keys, the reason no "installed homebrew" works even if it does not use payloads, is the Geohot fake-signing keys have been backlisted in the newer firmwares.

I had to do a double take when I first saw this... and my first thought was 'nothing good happens' and seems like I was right, I'm tempted to go wading through other scene sites in about... 6 hours to see how many people installed this without reading fully and now can no longer use their homebrew.
Gary, you might want to re-add the warning above and below the download link, so they're forced to see it before being able to download so we can try and reduce the number of people here who just see the title and go straight for the download link.
Console: PS3 Slim 120GB HDD <02.23.2010>
Firmware: 3.55 CFW
CFW: Bitsbubba's NFW v3 w/ Cinavia disabled.

Agreed... People tend to see what they want to see with things like this definitely.

That's what I thought, something like this is going to take a LOT of work I would imagine, and would probably require a collaborative effort which is pretty slim in the current scene (unless things changed in the last 72 hrs).

I'm really interested to see how many people managed to get themselves into a jam on this one, but like you I just can't be arsed trawling forums (or rather kiddie war zones) to see.

Seconded, at least that way there should definitely be no whiners here! lol

Hopefully this serves as a launchpad for a homebrew enabled 3.66CFW! Thanks for the news Gary!
