It's not a problem of "size" or brand. It could be an isolated problem of your HDD who needs to be fixed/changed, patrick.
It was fine until I started using TB, i dont think my TB is defective, I think since I only have 1 usb port working on ps3 my cheab hub isn't dealing with USB power issues quickly enough sometimes, hence why system will boot TB dongle w/ external plugged in like 1/6th the time (it boots system but doesnt load TB payload in that ratio) and without external plugged in, boots 4/5ths the time.

Hey I'm no genius in this topic..but what happens if you just start your ps not just with the external unplugged, but without the hub connected at all? just the TB dongle..and when the boting is complete, you just connect the hub and the external..
I know its a pain in the ass, but If it works..
Or is my theory silly..?

Maybe a start from scratch will help? Fresh 3.55 OFW -> 3.55 TB v2, reflash your TB dongle -> And see if it works

He has 1 port available. Other one is broken. He can test internal, but external functionality is out.
Ye patrick, can be your usb hub too.
Yeah, it's me Dj Barth "One TrueBlue to rule them all, One Browser to find them,
One TB CFW to bring them all and in the Internal HDD bind them
In the Land of BarthMordor where Modding lie"
Oh, didn't know that..my mistake..apologies..
Then it's getting more obvious that the hub's the problem..
I'm just wondering..a broken usb port..that must be a rare defect..or is it just me that i heard such the first time..?
Well it worked originally. The way it broke was weird. I have a problem with breaking ps3 controllers. Anyway, I threw my controller it broke, it wasnt plugged into the ps3. Next thing you know my right ps3 port doesnt work. So if throwing my controller didnt cause it, then it was odd that it decided to go out at the exact same times as i broke my controller.

Uhh..thats kinda hard
Were you angry or why are you throwing controllers around?
But then again, your usb port could only have some minor soldering issues maybe?
Haven't you ever tried to disassemble and look what happened to it?
Im am no good with repairing hardware, Ive soldered a few guitars. Im getting pretty good at repairing ps3 controllers though hahahah. The port is definitely out it wont detect anything true blue dongle, flash drive, ext hd, charge controller etc. Its not getting any power, dead capacitor prolly

That sounds bad..
Don't take me wrong, I'm no good at hardware repairs either, was just a hunch..
