I was hoping someone would know a reliable place to repair a 60gb CECHA-01 PS3 with YLOD? I'm looking to get the CELL & RSX chips re-balled with lead solder.
I don't particularly want to send it away, I'm not sending it to Sony who will charge ridiculous prices to send me some other refurbished console that's likely to die within a month. Plus it has CFW so they will instantly go "PIRATE!" and refuse to fix it. Also the warranty sticker is removed.
Warranty was over anyway since this console is nearly 5 years old since I bought it.
So, if anyone here knows of a reliable place to reball my PS3 somewhere near the Hamilton Ontario area. Toronto is an option, though if possible I'd like to avoid going there as I hate Toronto.
I've already found several options:
Moe Repairs Kijiji URL:
If I call I'm instantly forwarded to voice mail without ever ringing once. I've left 2 messages over the course of seven calls the last two days, no reply. I sent emails through Kijiji (as no email is provided) and received no reply.
GlobalGSM/MTechService Homepage:
I've read several reports of this place using the following Business Model:
$20 for Diagnosis
$XX for repair (depends on if parts needed)
Take console home (~1 hour after bringing it in)
5 minutes later YLOD again
$20 for Diagnosis again
$XX for random hardware. And this repeats. No thanks
1Up Games PS3 Repair:
Console sent out for repair. Unacceptable. Worse yet only every Friday, so if I go tomorrow (Saturday) it sits in their shop for a week and is shipped out for another 2-3 weeks for repair.
Global Mods PS3 Repair:
Going to call this place tomorrow and see what time is like and also if they will force a firmware update (also unacceptable). It says re-flow one place, but an ad I saw elsewhere says "Lifetime Warranty, permanent fix" this hinting at re-ball. I wouldn't put it past a company to use a cheap (a-la heatgun) fix for repeat business. They also state they use $20,000 re-work stations. These don't really cost that much.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone has that aren't "buy a new PS3." I recently ordered a TrueBlue dongle and my PS3 YLOD'd before it got here, so I'm hoping I can have this reballed. It's either that or if someone knows a place I can buy a PS3 (even if it isn't PS2 compatible) that doesn't have a firmware above 3.55. I've checked eBay, Kijiji, Craigslist and Amazon. I'm not really willing to pay $700 (found on Amazon, most extreme example) for one. Most ads don't even list firmware version, those that do are above 3.55.
If you're curious why I don't just go buy a new PS3 the answer is because I just bought a TrueBlue dongle and it is in-eligible for return. I am also a member at CMP as such I would like to continue to use the modified PKGs (read: cheat) for my games.
