    broken dongle?

can't get the dongle to work, light stays red. I've tried reinstalling the cfw and it didnt work. i opened it and it looks like an orginal. Is it just bad luck and got a bad one? or there any type of fix for this

I was once the same. I had to pull the power cord from the PS3 and insert it back and re-start PS3. Then I buy USB-Hub, and began to run through it and now everything is perfect

I just got my TB today and had the same issue. This is what i did (on my slim 128gb):

    1. installed the TB v2 CFW.
    2. powered down and removed power-plug.
    3. removed my usb stick (and all other sticks etc).
    4. powered up the system and once inside the normal ps3 menu i inserted the TB dongle in the "primary" usb port (aka the rightmost one if you have a slim and its on its belly).
    5. got the message "unknown device detected" .. and waited untill the message dissappeared.
    6. powered down while the dongle is still inserted (but did not unplug powercord or dongle !)
    7. power up .. and after a fair while .. nearly a whole min .. the dongle turned "green light" and it booted to the normal ps3 menu.
I noticed that my system settings it has changed from "3.55" to "3.55 True Blue v2.51".
So it seems at some point the dongle installed a update.

no if you isert dongle while PS3 is on you'll get the "unknown device " message, 2.51 dongles are pre-installed with the update (and to my understanding can't be downgraded).

Having your tb taken apart on a static filled carpet is not a good idea.
I love playing with my dongle.

Uh? I think you misread me My system didnt downgrade .. but it clearly did indeed upgrade itself from the v2 cfw (2.50 i think?) to a new v2.51 by itself at some point.

I must admit i have no idea of the internal workings of this whole thing .. but as i couldnt get it to "coldboot" i tried a "warmboot" and that clearly made the little "umpalumpas" inside work so hard that they turned all green Anyways, "coldboot" works every time afterwards too (ive tried about 5 times now).
