Hello guys need a bit of advise. Today i got a 3dtv passive type. Tryed my ps3 using batman and dose seem to have parts that are in 3d.
Can the ps3 play movies that are 3d compatible that have been ripped into avi ? or do i need the origanal disc to do it.
My ps3 is on custom firmware and using a true blue dongle.
Any advise will be great.
Hi what type of tv is it, I have a sammy 3d smart tv and have no need for the ps3 to do the work mine all works off external harddrive flawlessly mabe yours can do the same btw the ps3 can handle 3d streaming not sure bout disc's but they have to be sbs mkv files i think...
2615863 is correct alot of types work on certain tv's which is why we need to know the make of the tv, You can download half sbs (Side by Side) Demo's just use google my friend and test but first check your tv docs to see what formats are supported by your tv.
I have an LG 3D TV. 1st don't expect all games to have pop out effect. Not all the games do that. (Including Batman) The games are in stereoscopic 3D this refers to a technique for creating or enhancing the illusion of depth in an image by presenting two offset images separately to the left and right eye of the viewer. These two-dimensional images are then combined in the brain to give the perception of 3-D depth. In some games you will see some pop out effect like the blob 2 & Mortal Kombat. Make sure that for the most recent games that you go into the options tab and choose 3D and most recent games allow you to set the dept to your liking.
The PS3 can play 3D movies except for recent movies that are produced or distributed by SONY - Were on 3.55 CFW that means - THE SMURFS - UNDERWORLD 4 & Monster House will not and do not work unless you are on 4.11 OFW - all future sony related blu rays will require for you to upgrade. Or you can buy a separate Blu ray player to play those movies specific and all future SONY blu ray players. I'm not sure? but on CFW there maybe a way of playing them through SHOWTIME? (maybe someone else can guide us on that one?)
Your TV will determine whether you can play different types of 3D (in my personal opinion) It's always best to go with a physical Blu ray disc here's why
Side-by-Side 3D Format
Side-by-side is another 3D transmission format. Side-by-side preserves vertical image resolution, but cuts horizontal image resolution in half, as the left eye and right eye images are squeezed to fit into one video frame. The TV converts these squeezed frames back into sequential full frames of left and right eye video.
Top-and-Bottom 3D Format
Top-and-Bottom is a transmission format for 3D video streams. In a top/bottom 3D image, both the left eye and right eye information occupy the same video frame, with left eye information on top and right eye information below. The vertical resolution of each frame is decreased, but the horizontal resolution remains constant.
Both Top-and-Bottom and Side-by-Side are both referred to as Frame Compatible .
SENSIO Hi-Fi 3D Format
SENSIO® Hi-Fi 3D is another 3D frame-compatible transmission format. Based on quincunx subsampling, SENSIO® Hi-Fi 3D preserves both vertical and horizontal image resolution by reconstructing the source images using a decoder in the 3DTV. The resulting 3D image is very close to the originally-captured one.
Blu-ray 3D Format
You may be asking yourself, 'what is the difference between the signal coming from my provider, and that coming from my Blu-ray player?' The Blu-ray 3D format is two full resolution 1920x1080p images, plus a small buffer of dark pixels to separate them.
So one full frame of video delivered from a 3D Blu-ray disc is twice as large as the two formats described above, providing double the resolution. 3D broadcasts (over cable, satellite or via antenna) will, over time, migrate to this higher resolution picture. However, today this high resolution format requires clearer standards and more bandwidth than broadcasters are able to devote to it.
You can convert a 3D movies to AVI and play them back on your TV using any of the methods above but you will notice the difference from a physical Blu ray to your ripped copy & some movies like HUGO do not deserve that treatment IMO. Rent them or buy them used (resell them like I do) if need be. Save yourself the bandwidth - the time to rip them and convert + BLU RAYS have additional extra content in 3D like Yoggie bear 3D all extras are in 3D !!!! + BD LIVE ONLINE etc...

I have a Panasonic 65" Plasma active 3d tv(P65VT30D) and a Panasonic 55"LED passive 3d tv(L 55ET5D)for my bedroom . So I want to know if 3d movies and games can be played on these tvs through N btw I have a Panasonic 3D bluray player too n they play 3d movies perfectly in these two tvs through PS3.

Most ripped movies are side by side so the output file is decoded on the tv not the ps3 you just have to pick the input type of file on your tv if it has these options which it should then your cool
