ThatOtherPerson is back with another original homebrew game for Playstation 3.
ThatOtherPerson has just released a new homebrew game for our JB/CFW Playstation 3.
The new game is titled Cubicle Shooter City v0.1.
He also informed that he will work this month on UFO racer and he will port UFO racer and Cubicle Shooter City to the Wii soon.
Don't miss this original games!
Recycle today for a better tomorrow! Cubicle Shooter City is a top down dual stick shooter that uses the city generator I made for Hero City 2 and the character models from Cubicle Shooter. To be honest I'm not very happy with how it turned out. It performs poorly and I think it looks ugly. Does anyone want me to continue working on this? What would you like to see added or changed? There where a few things I was planning to do but now I think I'm most likely going to just abandon this.
in b4 someone gives me shit for making a new game and abandoning it to move on to other things instead of sinking 20 years of my life into perfecting its mediocrity.
I will definitely be working on UFO Racer this month, I'm also going to be posting source code soon and for any of you with a homebrew enabled Wii I'll be making Wii ports of Cubicle Shooter City and UFO Racer very soon. So you have all of that to look forward to.
Ok, no offense to the dev, but why create something if your gonna abandon it? All software is shit when it's in a v.01 or alpha state. No matter how good you are, you will never do a one off that looks amazing. So if he can't work on his projects through the first alpha release, he really needs to find another hobby. As it really seems like he's just like "Fuck it, I'm bored I wanna code something, so I'm gonna make a game." Then after the game can be considered "stable enough" for some form of gameplay and user interaction, he then says "screw it, this looks like shit! I give up." - He has no drive at all after he does the initial alpha/pre-alpha. That is not good at all for someone who is developing any kind of application.
I know the dude has some talent, but he needs to reevaluate his thinking on game design and programming in general. Likewise as a fellow programmer (all though I'm a beginner.) the "20 years" comment makes we wonder if he just programs just to break up the monotony in his life. Basically like we gamers do when we get a game that we know is gonna be shit but we get it anyway to pass the time for a bit.
Like I said the dude's got talent, but he doesn't seem to have the drive, or the will to get any of his projects past the pre-alpha/alpha release. Then to top it off he drops the project because he thinks it's mediocre and isn't what he expected it would be. - Well no shit, it's an alpha. I've seen alphas that look far worse but the developer actually went forward and created an amazing application/game.
I mean I can't even count how many times I've started working on a game engine, or using an existing game engine to make a game, and then once I can actually compile it, test for bugs, test the features implemented, etc. I say to myself "damn that is horrible!" But then I remind myself - well know shit you JUST created this game and it's gonna take QUITE awhile before it blossoms into the vision you had of it in your mind.
http://deviant-generation.com/ - my site. Contact me, Korn, and gDrive. I'm the most active but they do come over to speak to me. Likewise it's always a place to send them a message when you need to. Plus you can meet my graphics team!

I think it's certainly reasonable to create something with the intention of abandoning it upon its completion. Not everything needs to be supported indefinitely or further developed until it suffers under intolerably feature bloat.
Although that admittedly wasn't really the intention with this specific project. I didn't plan to work on this game for long but I did intend to work on it's PS3 version for longer then I did.

For starters I just want to say that I think version numbers and to an extent even software states are totally arbitrary and meaningless. But that's a rant for another day.
I'll concede that MOST software sucks when it is early in development but I think it's definitely possible to at least discern the POTENTIAL of a project from fairly early on in it's development. This project shows little potential. Performance issues aside I don't think it's even particularly fun or interesting and I don't expect that would change notably from further development. Perhaps on Wii. There are some interesting additions and changes I hope to implement well porting it to Wii. But for reasons that I don't really feel like getting into I don't see much hope for this project on PS3 or at least not in the near future.

I'm beginning to think that you don't fully understand the concept of a hobby.

I made Hero City 2 over the course of several months. Does that count? If you want to count it's separate iterations I was working on They Do Not Die and it's sequel for years before I was content with them.
Like I said it's a question of potential. I didn't foresee Cubicle Shooter City blossoming in any meaningful way on PS3 and as such I don't see any reason why I should spend the time toiling away on it considering that I don't even find it to be an interesting project.
