People are all talking about eboots but they can also do something different. Patching those eboots / sprx's is because the decryption key is not available in 3.55.
But when they release a new CFW based on 4.20 or something (since they have the keys they can decrypt the firmware's to create CFW's) and tied that CFW to a special dongle, and put all the functions in the CFW they don't have to recreate every patch. I'm not sure if this is possible but this would save them a lot of work. No more patching of eboots / sprx's since the keys and functions are in the firmware.
This way they provide a dongle + CFW and maybe update CFW when sony releases new one and solve a lot of problems. But like I said don't know if this is possible.
This, if what you say is correct then that would already make them better. Of course that is assuming that they keep up with the cfw releases. Unfortunately if they do release a new cfw, Sony will release a new ofw, while it wouldn't really hurt game play, it could hinder online. People would surely demand it and it would end up a never ending cat and mouse game. Sure it might be simple to patch each time, but could you imagine having to update every week just to play online?

Like was said, if they do release a 4.xx cfw and can keep up the releases, TB would be irrelevant. It would just be a plug and play type thing, no eboot switching as the current ones could easily be decrypted then. I am not saying go out and sell your TB as we can't be certain they will keep their promise, but I wouldn't just shrug them off. Think objectively, beyond loyalty.

Yeah but there are possible some problems with this method, because otherwise it would exist already either by True Blue or E3. E3 stated that they are still investigating some options how to do it.
Offcourse I know a free option would be the best for all of us, but since E3 or TB are never going to give this method away for free, a modified CFW with dongle would be the best option I think. It saves the hassle for new eboot patches, and save me a lot of PM's of asking for new Eboots

But let's be realistic, even if they're talking about keys, most likely this will be about the new public keys, not the private one's !!! no one knew how to get those ones !!
So a such 4.++ CFW will work onlu on 3.55 or lower firmwares !! cause it won't be signed with the necessary private keys to work on 3.6+ OFW PS3's !! just like the JFW DH 3.56 MA !!
Than, it will need a lot of work, it's not really easy !!

Bad idea to install the new CFW 4.xx over CFW 3.55. Because now many PS3 sold with the factory firmware 3.56+, and they do not be able to make downgrade to 3.55. The best variant with the dongle, as it was at breaking the firmware 3.41 (or special CFW that would installed over OFW 4.xx) but I'm sure, before its release, they for a long time will test it on the possibility of cloning and hacking for the release free CFW.

Exactly !! without the private keys no one could make a 4.++ CFW installable on OFW 4.++, that's why they said we need to be on the 3.55 or lower version !! It's just like the JFW DH 3.56 MA story !
We don't have the 3.56 private key but with the public 3.56 key they could decrypt the 3.56 OFW, add the necessary patchs/modifications than encrypt-it with their custom keys ! in this way it will work only on 3.55 or lower versions !
