How do you mod/hack a Nintendo DS?

Hey guys, I have a first generation Nintendo DS and I was wondering how do I open this thing up? I want to be able to run homebrew and Roms of course. So how do I go about doing this? And again, I have the first generation Nintendo DS. I plan on getting a Nintendo 3DS, eventually. (Plus a PSVita as well :P)

To play homebrew/roms on the ds you need to get a flash cart. I recommend either getting a R4 or acecard because there compatible with the 3ds but only for playing ds roms and homebrew.

    Acekard.
    R4
    Cyclods.

These are the best slot 1 flash carts. Also if you want to play gba roms, you will need a slot 2 card as well. Slot 1 is better for compatibility with ds games. And slot 2 is for the extra ram that gba games need. EZ flash is the cheapest slot 2 card and I believe with it the slot 1 cards can run gba roms directly off the same micro sd as the nds roms. Also when I was shopping for flash carts, I finally decided on cyclods because it had more features and was more stable than the others. I'm not sure how it is now though, since Team cyclops went missing.

For the first DS, I'd go with just a R4. I got a clone, the R4i. It's decent. It works lol.

For the first DS, I wouldn't spend over $15 for a flash cart.

Cheers guys, I'll look into the cards listed and settle on something from there!

Pretty much any flash cart will do you well.

I have a ttds, and can run pretty much everything (Even movies, although they do lag a bit and a ds isn't suitable for movies for me - Too small)

actually i would go for the supercard dstwo if you want to spend the money, the supercard dstwo is the best card out hands down it has extra memory and its own cpu so it can emulate GBA games through slot 1 and it can also play movies without having to convert them to .DPG format , and it has its own proprietary snes emulator and a MAME emulator as well , its worth the 35 bucks , or you could get an acekard 2i for like 12 $ ,but no GBA emulation , no MAME and only dpg movies with moonshell ,no proprietary video player ,plus with dstwo there is cool interface option for it called imenu
