But why is that worth free will? What gives us the right to force somebody to give us something? I have heard about the "hacker's creed", but I do not agree with forcing people to comply with it. Hacking and the Internet has always been about freedom, freedom from laws, and freedom from the power hungry. By thrusting such a creed on somebody, we are essentially going against our very supposed ideals. We would be no different than any dictator or mob rule. If we keep this up, then I would say the ideals we say we're for, are not freedom, but free things, to which point you could put us in the same category as dictators and thieves. We force you to give us what we want, and if you don't we take what we want by force. We make greed a virtue while rallying against greed i.e. we become hypocrites. And worse than any greed by far is the disregard for another's rights in our conquest for free things.
I'm just saying that hacking typically leads to a free solution for the scene. I'll leave this part alone now. My main point in the previous reply was about how TB is the one making tons of money from this ordeal. There are devs/hackers out there that have the answers & a way to put a stop to what TB & now JBKing/PB2 are doing as clones.
Why let them continue to make all of this mula? Maybe some of the devs are an insider for these dongle makers. I'm not directly accusing any dev/hacker of anything. We've just been left in the dark about so many things to do with hacking the PS3. Trust in this scene has become a MAJOR problem. I can only really trust a couple devs right now. I won't mention any names here but they both are members here at Crunch. It's just sad how the PS3 scene has developed since the initial jailbreak was announced. Thanks!

thanks butnut, and do you mean by installing linux to a USB HDD? ( because I thought as soon as you take out inside HDD, it reformats when you put it back in. )
also, people asking about homebrew and multiman working, I think if you add peek and poke to the Dex firmware you install then it should work I think. ( use the MFW tool and add the peek and poke )

Removing your internal hdd does not cause a format when you put it back in.
You will only have to format if you put in a new(or used) hdd but the format is only for that hdd, your 1st hdd will still work with out needing to be formated. Just don't upgrade or downgrade while swaping hdd's.
Be sure to turn off your ps3 before removing the hdd.
And I would like to say thanks to who ever leaked it, if you are reading this post.
Listen, I understand some people may have got upset that this was released. But I got to thinking, If it is so easy to load current backups by just installing a regular PSN Update for that game.....That is ridiculousness.
All these people dex machines before the leak had to have known that. I can not believe that if that method really does work. ( Can not test it out myself. I don't have a dex machine, and I am not going to attempt making one. ) that no one tried it... so maybe thats why they are mad, because the current method of playing games will get pacthed in DEX firmware 4.21.
to unpack: open the filemanager (one of the icons in the top left of the desktop), open that folder, right click on linux-headers-2.6.38-powerpc64-otheros_2.6.38-powerpc64-otheros-10.00.Custom_powerpc.deb, a menu box pops up, choose extract here. Do not install with synaptic or with deb commands.
i get this error when extracting: "Can't run the archiver executable"
"Failed to execute child process "ar" (no such file or directory)

Yep! You can rest assured that Sony will put the clamps down with DEX 4.21. We better enjoy things on 4.11 DEX because a patch is surely coming from Sony now!

I wouldn't doubt it that Sony'll implement some type of whitelist (as usual), once you update, you'll have to connect to Sony, they'd check your PS3 info and you'd have access to all the features. Or something like that.

The filemanager uses the program "ar" to unpack it and on your system it's having trouble finding "ar". You are not by chance running from live cd? Maybe, try opening the folder (that your deb package is in) as root (an option in the tools menu of the file manager) Also, you could just unpack it on your pc with 7zip (it works on deb files). Then copy the folder to your ps3. There is a version of 7zip that works under linux too.
I wished internal HDD's would work for playing backups from DEX. I don't have any spare USB HDD's laying around except for the smaller flash drive ones(2GB or less) which will at least allow me to convert to DEX. I have a bunch of stuff on my 600GB internal HDD using CFW. I'd love to be able to use it for my DEX needs. I hope we see the ability soon to use internal HDD's for DEX backups. I'm sure this could be implemented some way, right JLM? Thanks!
