Thanks for your reply! I just ordered an E3 Card Reader. I think it will fix my PS3 for sure.

    Have a good day!

no problem, if you need any help once you have the dongle i will be glad to help

I have worked out what caused my brick (may be why other's have too)

well i do feel a numpty...... when i first done the cex2dex i used dump_flash to get a dump of the flash

then used that dump in cex2dex with dump_eid0.bin to get dex flash to convert to dex

then on the return to cex i renamed my original dump created with dump_flash to my-original-cex.EID0.NORBIN

*****this is the error as it clearly says in the tutorial*****

    * All tools must be used ONLY with NAND/NOR dumps created by multiMAN

do not use your dump from dump_flash or other methods.

In other words read all tutorials once...... then again..... then again..... lesson learned

i can successfully go from cex2dex and dex2cex at will now

i am sure this is the cause of many of the bricks, so just to confirm use only cex.EID0.NORBIN (created with multiman) to do the DEX2CEX switch.

I used memdump. I think it's starnge, but who knows, that may be the problem.

What FW's were you in when making the DEX2CEX and CEX2DEX conversion?

    Hi andreus

    do you mean successful conversions?

    if so... kmeaw>cex2dex & 3.55 dex downgrade>dex2cex

    unsuccessful?

    tried rogero's, 3.55 dex and 3.55 downgrade.

I think the flash is definitely it, for me anyhow.

deank did say * All tools must be used ONLY with NAND/NOR dumps created by multiMAN

i am not knowledgeable enough to know why? only i see the result

i have come to the conclusion it is definitely the flash with my brick

    @ DANNY G

you will need your original multiman dump that you did at the beginning of the tutorial. (NORBIN or NANDBIN)

    otherwise prepare for a brick.

the brick is recoverable with e3 card reader or psgrade type dongle (on the front page is a link to tutorial)

    Thank you
I think some people expect to see the PS3 boot to some kind of menu when they use PSgrade or otherwise.

After you use a jig or a PSP or PSgrade on a dongle or whatever your method is, the PS3 will shut down again, THEN, place the usb in the right slot of PS3 with lvl2diag(step1 file of downgrader files) and the UPDAT.PUP in the root of your USB. Then reboot your PS3 and wait for the menu. then proceed to follow directions.

EDIT: In some cases the PS3 will still beep 5 double beeps, just like the brick sounds, but will still be successful if you take out the dongle and insert the usb with the UPDAT.PUP and lvl2diag files.

    @ ohnozeibricked

So until now the safest way to do C2D is:

1 - Use MM to dump my flash

    2 - Use eEID_RKDumper to obtain my eid_root_key

3 - Use c2d.exe to convert my dump to DEX

4 - Use MM to do the conversion

5 - If I want to go back to CEX I use these instructions: http://www.ps3crunch.net/forum/threa...6428#post46428

But when I come back to CEX (using the original dump from MM) I have to turn off the PS3 first and then install a CFW CEX

    Is that right?

OK I have got a CECHA12 (NAND Hong Kong Version 8E that I wanted to convert to 0x86) had a shit of a time using the CD2 exercise kept on coming up invalid flash after like 50 dumps no go with CD2 exe from mm so I used CEX2DEX exe to convert to DEX loaded the flash through multiman left it there dumped the flash again threw it into the CD2 exe and bang it worked. So now I have converted this to 0x86 and it shows up as 0x86 tried a PS2 PAL Disc still says wrong region. Tried remarrying the drive and it still says wrong region. Any clues on this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You need either the DEX .EID0.NORBIN or the CEX .EID0.NORBIN.
You need the extracted key (it seems you have it in the "dump" file).

    1) Downgrade your PS3 to 3.55DEX (with 3.55DEX_downgrader).
    2) Install mM and dump your dex flash
    3) Use c2d.exe to convert your dex flash to cex: "c2d dump my-dex.EID0.NORBIN my-cex.EID0.NORBIN 85"
    4) Use mM to flash the new "my-cex.EID0.NORBIN"
    5) Install kmeaw 3.55

Depending on what was the original region of your PS3 - replace "85" in step 3) with the proper value:

    83 (JAPAN)
    84 (USA/CANADA)
    85 (EUROPE)
    86 (KOREA)
    87 (UK)
    88 (MEXICO)
    89 (AUSTRALIA/NZ)
    8A (SE ASIA)
    8B (TAIWAN)
    8C (RUSSIA/ASIA)
    8D (CHINA)
    8E (HONG KONG)

    ***

You don't really need the original/cex flash dump. All you need is to dump your current flash and change its region/target id (in your case from DEX 82 to RETAIL 83-8E).
