I think qa is not relevant on DEX systems (only in Factory service mode and CEX, i think). But if you when back to CEX your QA should be still there.
The DEX OFW allows installing unsigned packages (in all versions ex: 3.55, 4.20, etc), but does not allow installing retail packages, so you can only do that in 3.55 with a 3.55 DEX CFW that allows installing retail packages. You can build own PUP with MFW, or use one that has been released.

I think Rogero's downgrader does not allow installing retail pkg's.

@Rogero, could you add the install retail packages to your 3.55 DEX Downgrader FW?

It doesn't and as I was told it is either or. downgrade or retail packages. Could be wrong about that however. you can not believe everything you hear on the internet.

I think the downgrader is a pup with a prepatched lv1 (with no syscon hash checks)
The install retail packages is with patching the nas_plugin sprx (check euss mfw git), i think
Option --allow-retail-pkg: Patch to allow installation of retail packages on DEX
I don't know if there can be a pup with the two + peek and poke

I meant it is still QAed after going back to CEX, even if bricked.

I think it's possible to add Retail pkg install to Rogero DEX CFW.

    1. Download PS3MFW 0.2.1 Portable
    2. Download eussNL "Patch Package installer" tcl for DEX (new task created by euss some days ago) and replace the one in PS3MFW "tasks" directory
    3. Open PS3MFW and configure the keys dir in "File" ... "Settings"
    4. Select as "Original firmware" the Rogero DEX firmware and remove all pre-selected patchs
    5. Select only "Patch Package installer" and select "Patching to allow retail pkg installs"
    6. Press Build MFW button and wait

I think this should work but my ps3 is bricked and still waiting for the dongle i ordered so i can't test.

Anyone (with a flasher as safegard) want to test?

If this work this DEX CFW should work like a normal CEX CFW and with downgrading capabilities thankx to rogero

    success guys,

minimus turned up this morning, only ordered it yesterday!

strange thing was i still got the same beeps when doing downgrade with dongle?????

i put self file and pup on usb and it still unbricked it, kinda confused as in the tutorial it said "the console should boot, and then reboot without any beeps that we have with the brick"

so might be a good idea to put that in tut?

a reminder to anyone with a psp, still follow on with the tutorial as you might still get the beeps, i am not saying it will work as i used the dongle but it worth a try!

edit: to above post that has already been done http://www.ps3hax.net/2012/07/itskam...l-retail-pkgs/

thank you all for the help

Cool! Glad you manage to unbrick!

Reggarding itskamels cfw, is different because rogero's cfw serves also as downgrade pup so there is only need for one 3.55 pup if we add retail install to it. itskamels needs another downgrade pup for downgrading from 3.55+ to 3.55.

Rly think so? Possible i try go back to CEX to look out for this cause rogero says its only a eEID problem.

2- Resetting the syscon hashes is only needed in the case of a downgraded PS3 from 3.55+ OFW in order to reset the syscon values to version 3.55 and match the OFW/CFW used.
And this must be done before starting the CEX to DEX conversion.

3- In case of a Brick during conversion back from DEX to CEX, only a dongle flashed with Psgrade to allow putting the PS3 into Factory Service Mode + the correct Lv2diag.self is needed and probably will fix the PS3.
Syscon hashes mismatch is not related here, it's only eEID related.

    didn't understand your post...

my post is nothing to do with DEX2CEX brick problem.
Is about the possibility to transform rogero DEX CFW by adding the retail package install possibility that is not enabled on OFW DEX.

Reggarding the DEX2CEX brick the info my post a few pages ago reggarding syscon hashes is what i was informed by euss (ps3devwiki main contributor) in ps3dev irc (the text next to "->" are mine comments).
Also, butnut refered a few post ago that if you don't turn off your ps3 in step 32 as deank tutorial and update to CEX straight from XMB the brick won't happen.

I know rogero said is related to EID0, but maybe there is a misinterpertation, because as i was told that all signs direct to syscon hash checks

NOTE: THIS TUTORIAL IS OUTDATED, DON'T USE IT!! (SEARCH FOR A UPDATED TUTORIAL)

I talked to Rogero about this in irc and it seems that this DEX2CEX bricks are related to syscon hashes checks afterall

So to avoid the DEX2CEX brick in Step 32 of deank's CEX2DEX tutorial, do this:

    1. Before you start be in Rogero DEX CFW
    2. Flash your CEX.EID0.NORBIN in multiman CEX
    3. Exit Multiman
    4. In XMB update your PS3 with Rogero CEX CFW v3.4 ( this CEX fw have LV1 syscon checks patched to avoid Bricking )
    5. Done

DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR PS3 in all the process or you will have the DEX2CEX brick because of CEX syscon hash checks!!!

    UPDATE:
It seems is not possible to update from XMB so another alternative is needed, meanwhile don't do this process. Maybe first you will have to be in factory service mode or one of the other alternatives euss point out in irc.

Then if you want to go back to DEX:

    1. Before you start be in Rogero CEX CFW
    2. Flash your DEX.EID0.NORBIN in multiman CEX
    3. Exit Multiman
    4. In XMB update your PS3 with Rogero DEX CFW v2
    5. Done

Note: I posted this were because rogero said i can post in his behalf too
Note 2: If you want to use other firmwares without lv1 syscon hash checks follow first Rogero tutorial to dehash to reduce the chanches of bricking

If you nevertheless didn't read this and have a DEX2CEX brick. Follow tutorial to unbrick
