a error free method is undiscovered. the best one that is less dangerous is dean's. using MM to flash. as I am told it only flashes part of the nor/nand instead of the whole thing. seems to work for some and bricks others.

mystery element is still a unknown. but more and more people are starting to talk about bricking when switching back to CEX to watch DVDs or blu rays or just to go back to normal.

My advice, Just wait. Devs around the block have been working on it to make it easier for everyone. just takes some time. Soon we should see a better linux free solution. ( right now it requires the ps3 to be on 3.41 -i think- ) and maybe a solution for the DEX to CEX. or a better understanding of it. right now I have heard that it has to do with qa / syscon / hash checks / firmware versions.

i just successfully converted my ps3 back to CEX. I was ready for a brick and got my Dingoo to enter FSM, but it wasn't needed.

    PS3 model #: CECH-2001A
    Original Firmware #: 2.70
    Highest Firmware #: 3.55
Console QA yes/QA no: ( QA yes)
CEX Firmware before conversion: 3.55 Kmeaw
DEX Firmware after conversion: Rogero 3.55 with peek&poke 1st release
    Highest Dex Firmware used: 4.11
Final Dex Firmware: Rogero 3.55 with peek&poke 1st release
    Specify Region Changes: None.
All CEX Firmwares after conversion: 3.55 Kmeaw
    Brick/Not Brick: Not Brick
    Notes:
The 1st thing i did was qa_flag with qa_flag.pkg (not the rebug one: togle_qa) and then:

To DEX: Downgraded to 2.76 -> 3.41 P&P patched -> dump_rootkey (Naerhert metod) -> 3.55 Kmeaw -> Rogero DEX with P&P (1st release) 4.11 DEX -- going up and down to 3.55 (downgrade .PUP) and then 4.11 a few times.

    To CEX: 4.11 -> 3.55 Downgrade DEX PUP -> Rogero DEX with P&P -> 3.55 Kmeaw

Apps: Multiman to dump flash and write eid0 to DEX (82) and to CEX (84). C2D to patch to DEX. Naerhert metod to get root key.

I hope that help avoid bricks.

I believe this is one of the KEY parts. In my tests I used my QA'd PS3 to go cex->dex->cex and played with various firmware versions with 100% success and no bricks.

First off thanks deank for all your help

My first brick was i believe using the dump from dump_flash to do the c2d. It worked in c2d to get the Dex flash, so i used that to get back to cex and bricked.

After the brick i recovered with the detailed method went to dex again and used same dump again and bricked duh! (i did test with different f/w)

Now using mm dump i switch no problems (as per tutorial)

i do wonder if other people are using different flash (ie not mm flash) to do c2d (Because it worked to do the c2d it kinda made me feel it was safe to use)

Like a say it is my fault for not following the tut to the letter. I was using linux for the first time and was having problems getting the key. Once on dex over confidence being able to go up and down firmwares at will probably led to my mistake.

    what do guys think?

So until now the safest way to do C2D is:

1 - Use MM to dump my flash

    2 - Use eEID_RKDumper to obtain my eid_root_key

3 - Use c2d.exe to convert my dump to DEX

4 - Use MM to do the conversion

5 - If I want to go back to CEX I use these instructions: http://www.ps3crunch.net/forum/threa...6428#post46428

But when I come back to CEX (using the original dump from MM) I have to turn off the PS3 first and then install a CFW CEX

    Is that right?
