Remember that hack proof PS3 slim model revision we mentioned back in June? Well, it’s here and shipping. Neogaf forum member TheBanditKing has received, snap a few pictures, and confirmed some of the changes previously mentioned–for PS3 CECH-3001A. This new model should fix major security flaw that is in older PlayStation 3 revisions. Sony needed to do a hardware revision in order to stop the jailbreaking. Don’t forget to checkout the pictures after the break.
TheBanditKing says:
The Wifi light was removed but not the HDD light, the PS logo above the drive is now silk screened rather then an emblem while the silk screened SONY logo was removed in favor of an indented logo. Also the power and eject buttons have changed color to a darker gray and the silver/clear overlay around them is removed.
Lastly the entire casing is now a matte finish besides the power button/drive face area, no more glossy front and side plastic [...]. The unit is also lighter then the 2001-A (not sure why) also I believe they may have finally engineered out the annoying plastic pop from case expansion/contraction with this model.
[...] also worth noting that in the 4 hours I have had the 3001-A on there has been no plastic pop from the case and the unit actually feels cooler to the touch then the 2001A right next to it.
[...] they removed the LED backlighting from the actual buttons. The little green and blue LEDs are still there above the buttons [...]
[...] it sounds like the 3001-A is quieter then the 2001-A I have right next to it as the 2001 is making most of the fan noise in the room (keeping in mind both are doing the exact same thing).
Let the hacks begin! Even though I'll probably never buy a sony product again (unless the latter occurs of course!).

fastest way to ensure something is hacked is to call it hack-proof, MS learned that with Windows XP lol, they called it hack proof and AFAICR it was hacked and available in a matter of hours.

Exactly. By advertising this unit as "hack proof" they are outright challenging all hackers to fuck them up. Which is asinine in all honesty. Haven't they learned? DO NOT bitch slap a hacker, it will only cause you more harm. Ahh well expect Sony to run away with their tail tucked between their legs soon.
I plan on getting another PS3 in the next few months, but I think I'm gonna go for another older hacked unit. Plus I'm gonna get one used. I won't buy one directly from Sony anymore. I'm not gonna give them money.

same happened with the xbox 360 hack proof untill the specialist came around XD 3 months or so after it was released
is there any differences to the underside or rear? any extra / larger venting that can be seen? also has the composite really been removed?
it will be interesting to see pic's of the main board & components when someone risks opening one.
great write up & pics /GriFFin thanks for this
thanks Pockets69.
although not much of a hoax i wouldn't have thought many ppl would really be that bothered as most ppl now have hdtv's.
If the weight is less i wonder if that might meen a smaller heatsink and fan. if thats the case then i wonder if the cpu / gpu have been clocked to run slower and so produce less heat. ( there is going to be more to it than that i know)
re-edit
sorry /GriFFin i asked you abot the 3001 ps3 then i re-read the post & realised it's not you that has the 3001. your posting this as news. sorry about that,
