    ps3 PS2 emulator working on CFW 3.55

Both PS3 Phat and Slim. Original discs only.

It looks like you can now run your original PlayStation 2 discs on your Custom Firmware 3.55 console... that's right, without Cobra-USB Dongle or Downgrade!

A new method posted over at ps3devwiki explains how to get the Playstation 2 Software Emulator working on CFW 3.55, without the need of a dongle or downgrade.

Keep in mind that you will need to replace files on your PS3. So make sure you do a backup of your /dev_flash before following the steps below!

Getting Playstation 2 Software Emulator working:

Method (on Firmware 3.55, without! Cobra-USB Dongle or Downgrade) for all consoles (fat & slim).

    - Replace following files on your consoles /dev_flash/ with the ones included in this archive p3dwik-ps2compatfiles.rar
    - Get into Factory Service Mode (FSM Tool/Dongle)
    - Insert your Original PS2 Game Disc
    - It will run.

Note: Backups wont work. You're getting the compatibility of the 2.60 software emulator with all of its bugs.

Are you worried about your 'data freedom' rights, like Prism and NSA and want to be 'secure' online, and access what you want where you want?

Then signup now with our sponsor VPN4ALL and 'protect' yourself online, and don't forgot if you tried of searching the 'net for stuff, then grabbing an UsenetBucket account is the only way to go with unlimited downloads, fast speeds, uncensored servers, and low pay-per-month rates, and at the same time by signing-up with either of our sponsors you end up supporting our wonderful group of scene news sites that you enjoy reading daily!

Since alot of people are talking about it again, I decided to make it a news item, and close your original thread and link to this FP story.

Sadly (I think gOPA said this already), this is not worth the hassle and is a risky procedure, especially when you're bound to mess around with the flash memory-stored files, and the compatibility rate is unsatisfactory - in fact, you're better off actually grabbing a PS2 or a PS2-compatible PS3 (if you can that is) or a high-spec PC that'll actually allow you to play most of the highly-rated PS2 titles.

To be honest, I don't think you can beat a PS2 using the component out and FreeMCBoot / ESR & you must be able to pick one up for next to nothing

Better off using a nice gaming PC to do the job. Why? A hell of a lot better compatibility, and you can use plugins that will add post processing effects to the game to make them look decent in full HD. Use PCSX2. If you need help setting it up for various games, give me a shout. Or just search on the forum and post in the thread I already have up.

or you know....buy and use an old PS2.

But cheers for the info though.
