    Ps3 HDD UpGrade Help

what is the easiest way to get my data to a new HDD ?

im currently using a 250 gb , want to upgrade to a 1tb scorpio blue
whats the best way to transfer the data ?

is there a way to transfer and re-inject my current saves ?

i might want to start fresh , but im trying to figure out the best route to take

the best way to backup a PS3 is probably to use the PS3's inbuilt backup utility to transfer the data to an external drive and then transfer it back after you have changed the drive.

Instructions for the backup utility can be found here: http://us.playstation.com/support/an...x.htm?a_id=798

that depends on what you mean by game data, if you are talking about saves then yes (as long as they are not market unexportable.) if you mean your game backups then I honestly have to say that I have no idea, the program was obviusly never designed to backup that up though so I'd guess that it won't. backing up the backups is quite easy though, just use mmOS in multiman and copy the GAMES folder that the bacups are stored in over to an external drive, and then copy theme back after the harddrive switch.

As for making a clone of the harrdrive it should work as long as you make an exact disk image on your machine and then write that image back to the new drive, however the problem with that is that when you make an exact copy you are also making an exact copy of the partition seizes on the ps3's harddrive, so when you flash the image back to the new harddrive the PS3 will probably still think that it only has 250GB of storage available. And I'm not sure there's any way to fix that without formatting the harddrive from the PS3 which defeats the purpose of cloning it.

System Backup is one of the worst method. It doesn't contain several data like Trophy, and on another console will not restore saves with CP, and activations. If you have jailbroken PS3 do this by your hand.

Use google translate (it will be broken translation). Anyway, you can see all important paths and you can guess what contain.

If you have CFW Rebug or DEX OFW/CFW just use dedicated option for it.

It will force to format. But you can copy these data to external media on USB or via FTP to any other device/platform.

And not all files, just important ones. ;)

    so even if i switch from a 250 gb to a 250 gb , with the same firmware , i have to re-format ?

and will i be able to re-inject trophy data by ftp'ing it back over at a later time ? ?

Yes, always when you change different HDD, PS3 must format it because this stupid encryption and even most stupid security measures. ;]
