My PS3 turns off 5 seconds after i turn it on. Help!
I was on True Blue CFW and i wanted to update to rebug true blue edition cfw because i wanted to make use of the fake save data option as my Uncharted 3 froze on a certain chapter. Anyway back to the point. I was updating the fw , it got to 100% and it just switched off. i dont know if the problem lies in the power cable because when it switched off, then not even the red light showed, it was as if the cable came out. So I pulled it out and put it back in again and the red light showed up so i tried switching it on but after 5 seconds it just switches off again! Its not the first time my ps3 just switched off by itself. It started happening recently, but the only difference was that I could switch it back on. Now it doesnt switch on at all!! Any help would be appreciated.
You will need someone (or you) to open the PS3, clean it, replace the thermal paste and isolate the metal plates that embrace the motherboard and you'll be fine. It seems to happen often in the summer time when temperatures get high. Don't worry, you'll get it going.
If you can disassemble it yourself - try to start the ps3 with the heat sinks and fans only. If it starts - isolate the metal plates (make sure they don't touch anything on the motherboard).

My PS3 fails to even boot up before giving out 3 short beeps, google tells me this is the YLOD and that it is likely to be loose contact points on the RSX graphics chip.
Taking the PS3 apart looks a lengthy process for a first timer but doable as long as follow instructions.
I read a guide which states re-flowing the contact points with an heat gun but i must admit to being a bit apprehensive about doing that, may look to see if its possible to re-solder them instead.

Thanks for the help I really appreciate it. I will try that and get back to you.
BTW it's winter where i live lol.
Edit: I was wondering... Was it just a coincedence that my PS3 switched off after the firmware update when it was supposed to restart?
