A few questions about what is possible on a dex or cfw ps3

I have not followed the ps3 scene for a while since my ps3 died now that I have a new one I am thinking about downgrading it or converting to Dex but I have a few questions.


Can you play newer games?

Can you go online with the ps3?

Can you go the psn store and buy dlc?

newer games? sleeping dogs and journey (or if a game has a sony update and then is converted to play on dex)
online? no
buy dlc? no (but u can get dlc other places if you know where to look)

1. You can play any new game as long as you download it and it has an update? ANY PS3 GAME? Or do you mean just retail disc?
2. What about say, PSN games? Same goes for them; just need an update?

ANY game can be played from disc on the newest DEX firmwares (4.20/4.21).
New games with an update can be played on a DEX using the native USB BDEMU. (I have personally tried Sleeping Dog's, Lego Batman 2, Transformers)
All 3.55 compatible / fixed games can be played with Aldo's mmDM and multiman over network on any DEX firmware.

I personally haven't tried PSN games yet...

Ok so I'm a bit confused. Ya I know but everything sounds completely different from CEX firmware. So a bit of clarification is in order because I'm tempted to switch over.

So what firmware do I need to be on to play all the games including current releases?
Can I still launch backups from inside Multiman?
For 3.55 and below games can I run them in multiman with eboots or can I use it without eboots?
With current games that I use backups on - what patches are you referring to and how do I know if they are available or not?

Can I run every game including newer games straight from my internal PS3 driver or do I require an external driver?

1. Latest available FW is 4.21 DEX, and you can use that to play retail games on disc or games with DEX-prepared fixes or official updates.

2. You can launch games via multiMAN on ALL official DEX firmwares but only if you have a BD-emulation-formatted HDD or in conjunction with Aldo's DEX Game Mounter (mmDM).

3. You can run older/3.55-signed/3.55-fixed games via multiMAN using Rogero's DEX 3.55 MFW.

I thought all playable games can now be played straight from DEX with mmDM without switching back to CEX? That includes 3.55/3.41 CFW playable games. That's my understanding! This would mean no real reason to switch back to CEX once converted to DEX. Please clarify for me! I'm still on CEX & just pondering whether to convert yet. Thanks!

If i switch my ps3 on dex i can:
load all games i have from external/internal patched for 3.55 kmeaw?
play all psn games i have on internal hd, playable with kmeaw?
use all homebrew now working with kmeaw, like showtime ecc?
i read i need a bdemulator hd formatted, how i can verify if i have this?
