under system information it says software version 4.30 ...is that the same as the firmware? if so can i still install multiman or am i SOL..
1. You CANNOT install CFW if your official firmware version is HIGHER THAN 3.55
2. Check your GAME XMB column and tell me if you can see * /app_home/PS3_GAME/
@deank, To use all the features added from multiMAN 04.17.00 until multiMAN 04.17.02, first i must install multiMAN 04.17.01 then multiMAN 04.17.02 Or install version 04.17.02 is enough?no need to install multiMAN 04.17.01 First?
The reason I asked the question is Problem in multiMAN 04.16.0X(I think this version was)
in that Time i installed multiMAN 04.16.01 ,multiMAN 04.16.02,multiMAN 04.16.04 and did not install multiMAN 04.16.03 So the features added in 04.16.03 Not shown
This problem was solved by re-installing all versions (multiMAN 04.16.01 --multiMAN 04.16.04)
p.s:multiMAN 04.16.00 was installed first

if you mean where you select which game to play under the game pad icon then no there nothing there named that...only shows which game is in the drive and current demos that has been downloaded...so it appears if i want to install i will have to downgrade the firmware? i found a site describing how to do it but seems a bit complicated..but it says nothing about downgrading from the official firmware only from Regero..is there a easy way to go back to the older firmware ? like perhaps system reset or something?
i downloaded this from vuze and it contains a 3 step process with the files for ofw and cfw ..will this work in your opinion...here is what the readme file says...
"I did not make any of these PKGs or CFW, All credit where it is due to the devs!!!!
This is a simple guide for the noobs lol :-)
- Delete all game data (not save game data)
- Upgrade to official firmware 3.55 (Regardless of which firmare you are currently on)
Copy 'ps3' folder from 'step one' to root of USB Stick. Insert USB into PS3 and update through XMB (or recovery mode if the system tells you that you already have the latest update)
- Install Custom Firmware
Copy 'ps3' folder from 'step 2' to root of USB Stick (remember to remove folder from step 1 on USB).Insert USB into PS3 and update through XMB (or recovery mode if the system tells you that you already have the latest update.)
- Install Backup Managers
Copy contents from 'step 3' to root of USB Stick (remember to remove previous data from USB). Insert USB into PS3 and select 'install package files (Multiman First, then BDEMU-355KM)' from XMB and install packages.
**Congratulations you now have a jailbroken PS3 with working backup manager**
- All backups are to be launched through XMB via BM
- Any original PS3 game needs to be in disk drive on launch of backup"
not sure if this is what i should try ...it says no matter what firmware is on the console but i don't want to brick my ps3 ...
Also, not to be picky but is there a way we could manage the copied cached files form MM? Say the part of UC3 (large file that gets copied to HD0) so we can easily delete it?

you already can... I'm not sure of the exact name of the option (I believe it's got Cached in the name), and you can delete them that way, I did that with the Cached Data of Agarest and Nier because I needed the space they were gobbling up of my HDD.

None of that stuff will work for you. You are going to need a hardware flasher. A hardware flasher IS NOT for inexperienced people so if you fall into that category I'd recommend that you consult a business that offers downgrading services in your area. Also note that not all slim PS3s can be downgraded to 3.55

No, the updates are not cumulative. You only need 04.14.xx base installed and then you can install any later update. For example you can be on 04.14.00 BASE and can install 04.17.02 directly on top.
Basically multiMAN is just 1.4MB. For its basic operation it needs:
USRDIR/sys/DATA0 (1.4MB) <- multiMAN
USRDIR/fonts (2.15MB) <- Mandatory (without the fonts mM will lock on blackscreen - can be cut down to 500kb)
USRDIR/themes (10MB) <- The Original Theme (needed for GUI images - can be cut down to 1MB)
USRDIR/lang (1MB) <- Not mandatory (English will be the default GUI language)
So the updates only include DATA0 (multiMAN) and lang folder (with latest translations) = ~2.5MB total. That's why you need a prior base installed which includes the other required files/folders. I can bring down the size of the update only to 1.5MB, but that's not that much of an issue.
In 04.14.00 BASE was added a file in USRDIR/sys/AIOMOD.BIN (4MB) to handle the new method for "BD-Mirror" function and without this file you'll get "incomplete installation" message. It won't affect mM's operation, but that's why I posted that 04.14.00 BASE is the minimum requirement. From then on you can just use the updates.
BASE versions include all needed files + the original theme (~20MB total).
FULL versions include all needed files (20MB) + covers (~140MB) + some motion backgrounds/themes.
So basically BASE and FULL are the same. The difference in size (160MB bigger FULL) is because of the covers and the motion backgrounds. There is no real advantage in getting the FULL version if you already have internet connection to download the needed covers only.
I hope this clears all the questions about UPD/BASE/FULL.
And to the idiots who laugh and compare other BUMs with mM saying mM is 150MB and others are 2MB - Fuck you. A bare mM installation can be just 2-3MB. All the other stuff is because USERS want the added content (like covers, themes, etc).
