    PS3 Temps?

Hello everyone. I recently updated my copy of Multiman to the latest version, and I enabled the CPU temp reporting. I have been noticing that my temps look a little odd. I don't know what the safe temps for the PS3 are, but I feel these are waaay too high for normal. I have reapplied thermal compound a few months back, but I don't know if I should redo it or not. Also, I should note that the fans do pick up while playing a game. Can anyone tell me if these temps are too high?

PS: This was just bouncing around in Multiman. Don't want to run a game to see how high it gets, because I don't want to damage it or anything.

Well I do lots of servicing electronic components including PS3 (mostly fats) and I own PS3 80GB cechk console, temperatures in my PS3 are (thermal compound was applied 1 month ago) CPU 69 and RSX 64 (measured 1week ago) and today at idle CPU 60 and RSX 54 °C (room temp. about 20 °C ). A little odd is to me that your CPU temp is little to higher than RSX. You didn't say what model is your PS3 and my first thought is that you have a model with split radiators and the radiator that covers the CPU didn't fit to the CPU quite well. Here is the pictures of split radiator and old thermal compound on it.

OK. So my old PS3 became bricked after attempting to upgrade to 4.23 CFW without following the proper instructions. So I recently bought a PS3 off of eBay. It was a demo model. After converting it to a retail unit and installing CFW, I decided to play some games. I noticed that after about 10 minutes or so, the fan kicks up to about 50%. I opened it up and applied new thermal paste, and it was still doing it. I opened it up again and reapplied, thinking maybe there was an air pocket. This time I used the pea method instead of the credit card spreading method I normally use. It is still doing it. Checking my temps in Multiman after playing Need for Speed Most Wanted for about an hour or so, it is showing that the CPU is roughly 75C and the RSX is around 50C. It does not have the split radiators like pictured above. After doing some reading online, I believe that it is probably the thermal compound and thermal adhesive between the heatspreader and the cores. Does anyone else have any other ideas? It hasn't kicked to 100% fan speed yet, but I haven't tested any really graphically intense games (like Uncharted 3 [don't own it; will probably rent it soon to test]).

    Thanks for reading

EDIT: It is a CECHG01 model as well.
