Been out a while: what happened to TB and what did you update to?
Hi there,
I've been out for the last couple of months of this "DRM scene", and now I've came back. I started reading the forums and news and I've also checked the PS3SceneFiles patches; the last one being from June.
From what I understand, TB died because the protection mechanism was duped or something like that... am I right? So, no more releases from them?
I read about the CEX -> DEX conversions, seems like quite some messing to the console, since I like being as OEM as possible. Also, I haven't read yet how DEX play games, if by other special "DEX Eboots" that another group releases; similar to TB.
Also read about another CFW different from KMEAW available (can't remember the name) and recently checked over the 4.21 CFW rumors that it may release soon.
Lastly, the 3KEY announcement of the hard mod expected on 12-12-12.
So... here is the question: where did you go to, people that had / have TB; where did you migrate too? Is anybody still on the 3.55 TB firmware? What is the best choice to move on to in order to be able to play as most games as possible?
Thanks in advance and looking forward to your comments!
Well if you were already on TB, then moving to kmeaw wont do much except let you play those games without a dongle. N0DRM team released updates as well but mainly for games TB already released in 1.00 version. Also seems recently N0DRM has quit.
DEX doesnt need "special" eboots if by special you mean patched, they just have to be fself/dex which you can do yourself or with aldos tools but only as high as 3.60 FW currently. The way games higher than 3.60 are played on dex is they have to have a sony update pkg then coverted to dex (it seems the sony update disables some disc authentication process) and the game has to be on BDEMU formatted hard drive which is done from dex degug settings and 4.21DEX firmware is the latest to make all these games work with update (theres a few exceptions like raccoon city for instance wont work)
I first went back to Kmeaw 3.55 to get rid of the dongle and use some N0DRM updates, but after awhile decided to go to DEX 4.21 which is currently where Im at.
(Havent read much on 3KEY thing or know anything about this CFW like kmeaw you speak of, 4.21 CFW is still up in the air and may actually be the red power team if they dont make it a dongle, the dongle (4.21) by team red power hasn't been verified or debunked yet)

Does that DEX 4.21 you are in allows you to play games released until that firmware? If so, do you have any tutorials or link(s) to some info about converting from TB firmware to that?

Thanks again!
Yep exactly until this firmware as long as there is an official sony update. I got Resident Evil 6, Spec Ops the line, Borderlands 2, Xcom, Dishonored etc working I have gathered some helpful dex links in my dex compatibility list http://www.ps3crunch.net/forum/threa...ATibility-List. Also I used a combination of about 3 tutorials and I converted about a week ago so I still remember the process pretty well if you just want me to help guide you through it
I dont know what time zone your in etc but you can PM and then i can give you my skype, because if i walk you through this I prefer to do it real time rather than PM's or posts. Currently its 337am here to give you an idea in The States. If you prefer tutorials and then have questions thats fine as well, I just know how frustrating it is when your in the middle of a big change and no one answers your post or you get like 3 different answers that are all different.
First off though I dont recommend going from TB CFW to dex, go to kmeaw 3.55 would be your first step.

Thanks again! Here I think it was 5 AM when I posted!
Yeah, that's another thing I quickly read, about how games had to have an update from Sony to be able to be played in those machines. Although I'd really like to play some of them backuped (i.e. XCOM!!!), I still feel that converting is quite messy to the console and it's not just "flashing a new FW" and that's it.
So, I think I'll wait for a while (for CFW 4.21, 3KEY, or anything else that comes around); thanks a million for the Skype help, I'll let you know if I decide to convert, and before I go, do you know if:
1) TB has confirmedly stopped releasing Eboots forever? 2) Is feasible / easy to de-convert and / or go to 3.55 KMEAW from DEX, to have it as a starting point for future developments?

Games only require updates if on BDEMU formatted drive (the only way to play latest games that dont have patch)
All games 3.55 and lower or that have been patched via 3.60 keyz, N0DRM, DUPLEX etc dont require an update or have to be on BDEMU drive.
TB team has said nothing at all, so they're prolly just done or have something up their sleeve.
I havent went back to CEX from DEX, apparently thats where most semi bricks happen if they are to happen.
QA flagging your console before going to dex and going back to cex with rogero 3.4-3.7 prevents this mainly.
(just semi brick meaning flasher will bring it back)

You can play all new games on DEX if you use the retail disc.
Going to DEX on NOR consoles is very basic now.. switching back and forth is very easy and only add a few seconds more to a normal CFW flash once set up. You can even keep your games on PC and load them via network.
If the easy solution is what you're after then wait for either Rebugs cfw or the ODDE

When you say can play all new games via the retail disc does that mean "as of now" or "even for newer firmware requirements in the future"?
I may plan to switch to DEX, but I was wondering can you still return of 4.21 dex to 3.55 CFW or not? I know you can go from cfw to dex and back again but does it matter on what version of dex your are and so can you also go from dex 3.55 to 4.21 and back again?

yes, use DEX3.55 downgrader such as rogeros to go from 4.21DEX to 3.55DEX, going back up is just like normal OFW. install 4.21DEX right over 3.55DEX
