PS3 System Software Update (v4.30) coming Oct. 23

Well hot on the hells of the big 'BlueDisk-CFW' v4.25 for those with Jailbreakable PS3 consoles, comes some bad news from Sony, they are updating to v4.30, and I am sure Sony has been watching the news closely, and this update will bring about the PSN passphrase changes, forcing even those with 'BlueDisk-CFW' installed back off-line soon after Sony's big release. (Normally, that takes about 1 to 2 weeks to happen, as Sony slowly brings all the proxy servers up to date, and forces the v4.30 to be required 100% to connect).

Next Tuesday, October 23rd, we will be releasing a new system software update for PlayStation 3 (version 4.30). With this update we have made several changes to how Trophies are displayed on your PlayStation 3. The Trophy Collection will now reside under PlayStation Network on the XMB. Trophies that you have earned playing PlayStation Vita games are now displayed on your PlayStation 3. You will also be able to see your Trophy level and progress towards the next level while viewing your trophy collection.

Now there is also bad news for those using legit stuff on the PS3, it seems Sony has decided to kill off saving people life's using the 'Folding@home' system, no more research into cancer or other diseases, all that GLOBAL CELL POWER is not offline with v4.30:

By the beginning of November 2012, we will retire the services available through the Life with PlayStation application. In conjunction with its retirement, we will stop offering the Life with PlayStation application to new users with the 4.30 update. This includes the conclusion of our participation with Stanford University’s Folding@home, a distributed computing project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding and studying the causes of a variety of diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s as well as various cancers.

We’d like to thank the more than 15 million users that have participated in the program since it started on PS3 in 2007. PS3 users have donated in total more than 100 million computation hours to the Folding@home project to date, and as a result, contributed greatly to Stanford University’s Alzheimer ’s disease research. Considering the contribution PS3 has made to the project, we decided to retire it as a result of discussions with Stanford University.
Vijay Pande, Folding@home research lead at Stanford University, had this to say about your contributions:

“The PS3 system was a game changer for Folding@home, as it opened the door for new methods and new processors, eventually also leading to the use of GPUs. We have had numerous successes in recent years. Specifically, in a paper just published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, we report on tests of predictions from earlier Folding@home simulations, and how these predictions have led to a new strategy to fight Alzheimer’s disease. The next steps, now underway at Stanford, are to take this lead compound and help push it towards a viable drug. It’s too early to report on our preliminary results there, but I’m very excited that the directions set out in this paper do appear to be bearing fruit in terms of a viable drug (not just a drug candidate).”
Now the final question, will 'BlueDisk-CFW' come up with v4.30 soon, or will it be another big round of delays and broken promises???

Anyhow it all boils down to this, good old Sony has yet removed another FEATURE, this time you can offically say 'Sony Kills People'

    4.30 firmware coming on tuesday

t's been quite troublesome for many of us who hunt trophies on both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita, because PS3 users couldn't see PS Vita trophies. The upcoming software update version 4.30 will fix all that.

That's right, PS3 update 4.30 will allow all users to see trophies earned from their PS Vitas. Once Tuesday comes around, we won't have to figure out where players got all of their platinum trophies.

There will be one more major change with this upcoming update. Officially ending in November, the Life with PlayStation application will no longer be offered, which means that all Folding@home operations done in cooperation with Stanford University will also end. In appreciation, the research lead of Stanford's Folding@home research project had this to say:

“The PS3 system was a game changer for Folding@home, as it opened the door for new methods and new processors, eventually also leading to the use of GPUs. We have had numerous successes in recent years. Specifically, in a paper just published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, we report on tests of predictions from earlier Folding@home simulations, and how these predictions have led to a new strategy to fight Alzheimer’s disease. It’s too early to report on our preliminary results there, but I’m very excited that the directions set out in this paper do appear to be bearing fruit in terms of a viable drug (not just a drug candidate).”

Though we're getting a nice addition with version 4.30, we'll be losing a very intriguing application. Let us know your thoughts, and feel free to brag about your contributions to Folding@home below.

I also have it on good authority that this uses the same keys as 4.2x, so it's equally exploitable

    Zadow said the same thing.

In other news: you cannot hop on to PSN for now thanks to this update, unless firmware spoofing is sufficient, or worst comes to worst, one finds the passphrase AND spoofs the firmware to the latest version.
Instead of me being a complete and total dick and a prick, I should be on my best behaviour!
