Long time member - been out of the loop - looks like things have happened - help!

Hi,

I've been a member of this site for a long old while now. Things changed for me personally so I kinda lost touch with everything PS3-related around 6-8 months ago.....around the time that the TrueBlue dongle was up and running and people were waiting for eboots of new games to be released on the scene but certain groups.

Logged onto my local news site today and saw that lv0 keys had been released and got all excited.

I know i'm being a bit lazy but part of the reason I've not kept in the loop is my available time but I'm really intrigued with the latest developments.

I'm (still) on KMEAW 3.55, have multiMan (forget which version now!), still have my USB board from the good old PSGroove days!

Could someone who is very helpful, patient and understanding please summarise what's happened recently and where we are with things now ?

It looks like we can now get onto PSN and there's new CFW out ?
What about certain games ? Last time I looked all newer games (signed with 3.70 (i think) keys) couldn't be played unless they were via the TrueBlue dongle.

Any info that could aid me with getting back up to speed would be greatly appreciated

Just wait before you update , theirs 2 new cfws but they risky to use bricks reported so better of waiting for safer cfw

So to date, nothing seems to have really changed, i.e. alll those on CFW are still only able to play all the older games (FW 3.56 and below I think, with some exceptions which were on 3.70 - Uncharted 3 etc) - unless they've bought a dongle ?

Ehm?? Everything has changed! TB is gone and all the games TB had are now playable on 3.55 kmeaw -the DRM was compromised and game fixes were released to the public. No dongles needed.

Besides that we have a let's call it "beta" version of 4.21 CFW by Rogero. With it you can play anything. So yeah... Everything changed.

OK, so that's more like what I was after - I did get a bit confused seeing all these 4.xx firmwares that were running - as previously all those were doing was ensuring that you couldn't mistakenly update your PS3.

Wow, so all those newer games are now available to play on the older 3.55 CFW's ? So they basically released, or it was leaked, their way of cracking those games ?

the way to crack the games was released awhile back but the keys need to make cfw for anything over 3.55 were not so now as long as you are on 3.55 or a downgradeable model you can always have the latest cfw like psp if someone does the work

TB eboots got cracked and released for all 3.55 CFW including all updates for games
cex to dex conversion for systems was under development, some experimented, some didn't. some bricked, some didn't.
cfw bludisc 4.25 DRM comes out and gets cracked
lvl0 keys were leaked 2 days ago
cfw rogero 4.21 is released, some brick from several negligent reasons, some legit reasons, most don't brick at all though.
all new games are playable on 4.21 cfw without edited eboots (psn games need resigned to work)

Thanks guys, exactly what I was after. I actually just quickly waded through the last 50 pages of the latest news so that helped too.....seeing 8 months in the life of the PS3 scene flash by in 30 mins

I'm reading CEX to DEX conversions that people have done, this seemed like a big thing a few months ago......can someone tell me why ? What's the point in doing this and having a DEX console ?

So if I'm right in thinking I have two options to get myself back and up to date with things :

1. Stay on KMEAW 3.55 which I've been on since it came out, then have to use modified eboots with any of the newer games
2. Go from KMEAW to Rogero's 4.21 CFW - this negates the need to do anything with any eboots.

They are pretty much my options aren't they ? Been reading through the link posted above and sounds like I should be fine updating as I've never downgraded or anything.
