[SPECULATION] Could hacked EBOOTs signed with 4.x keys run on 4.x OFW?

    1. EBOOT modified to run game from HDD/USB and signed with 4.x keys.
    2. Get it on 4.x OFW using HDD swap (install it on CFW then pit that HDD in OFW PS3) or redirect PSN traffic to install .PKG from PC. (Can we sign .PKGs?). Or can the PS3 download .PKGs from the browser?
    3. EBOOTs run on OFW.

I doubt this works since surely the Devs would've said it.

could be wrong but the proper syscalls wouldnt be in place to do so.

AFAIK syscalls are only important when it comes to mounting games.

Whereas in my hypothesis the game would be running from the XMB directly.

But I also could be wrong.

how do you thimk the ps will run it from the xmb. the system will have to mount it regardless. i see what your saying with step 1 but that just refers to the decryption since the keys just let you read not redirect the data

I'm thinking of the time (when 3.55 CFW first came out in early 2011) when people were editing EBOOT.BINs to read a game's data from the HDD rather than the BDVD, so no syscalls required presumably. Turning Blu-Ray EBOOTs into PSN game style EBOOTs in other words.

I feel like an idiot for this thread. Edited EBOOTs will not work on OFW.

I think the only thing this would work on are demo's that can be converted to full retail games (which are very rare).

Some of the best discoveries are made by thinking outside the box.

Funnily enough "Think Outside The Box!" has always been my SSID ever since going wireless almost 7 years ago :P.

It was only recently I realised what a clever name it is for a wireless box! I thought outside the box without even realising haha.
