Michael Pachter: PS4 and Xbox 720 to be sold for $400
...Or '$99 with subscription plan'.
In the latest 'Pach-Attack' show, the analyst predicts the price of next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft, adding that Nintendo wouldn't be able to compete against their offer...
Here goes another prediction by analyst Michael Pachter.
In the latest edition of his "Pach-Attack" show on GameTrailers, he predicted that the 'PS4' and the 'Xbox 720' could likely be priced at $400 and/or at $99 with a subscription plan, similar to what Microsoft is doing with the XBOX 360.
If that does happen, he said the Wii U wouldn't be able to keep up with that kind of offer.
So, what do you think? If true, would you be OK with that kind of pricing? Do you think the Wii U would indeed be able to compete with that?
$400 bucks eh.. well I wont be buying one at launch, also the $99 subscription.. yeah, no thanks, that just.. to me, spells a recipe for disaster, especially since it'll essentially give MS and Sony an even bigger hold on the hardware with "well, you didn't BUY it, you're paying a subscription to USE the console"
or possibly a slippery slope to one of those, if you stop paying the subscription (if you get a subscription model) you then get barred from playing games and essentially have a paper weight..
Oh look.. another "analyst" whose predications are about as accurate as palm reading. Didn't he just recently state matter of factly that GTAV will be out in 2012? Hell, he once "predicted" that GTAV was coming out in 2010.. and that the Kinect would launch with a $50 price tag. The guy is a joke, a washed up has-been ... no, wait, scrap that. To be a has-been he had to have BEEN something in the first place
I wouldn't trust anything he said. He's only been right a couple times out of how many other failed predictions. And logically 400 for the next gen sounds to me either way too low which could mean that Sony and Microsoft would be selling at a ginormous loss, or that the specs of their machines are substantially weaker in relation to what is available than with last generation. If it is the latter than I doubt Nintendo will have any problems. And as Microsoft and Sony have gotten in relation to how they treat their customers and how their consoles are really more or less gimped computers they probably won't beat Nintendo by much if at all. Nintendo's console is the only one to me that seems to be different than your run of the mill computer. And in the end as always it will be the games that determine the winner, not power or price.
I especially loved his glorious comments about Real-Time Strategy titles.
“I have long been baffled as to why RTS games don’t work on consoles. I think it is partly because of the nature of the gameplay, it’s single-player and it’s turn-based.
“I play them a lot on my work PC, and I think games like this probably started with slackers like me who play games at work and don’t tell their bosses about it.
“For some reason, I think they just appeal to the more hardcore PC gamers. I personally play PC games more than any other genre, I just don’t like PC gamers that’s all.”
Hmmmmm... REAL TIME strategy titles are single-player and turn-based. Well said, Pachy! Well said!
Fuck SONY. The PS3 was a wake-up call that they make shitty products with shitty support. Goes for their Vaio laptops as well.
My bets are on Valve to rock the motherfucking earth with a Linux-based gaming console and Half-Life 3 as the exclusive launch title! That would double their profits.

LOL damn right - how in the name of God does he STILL manage to get all the publicity?
Weird crap - oh well, anyway, that guy is one hell of a troll alright!
