Apparently, the upcoming '3K3Y' Blu-Ray ODD Emu for the PS3 has been delayed. To be first distributed in China to see the reaction from Sony...
According to some reports, the upcoming 3K3Y Optical Disk Drive Emulator (ODDE) for the Playstation 3, has been slightly delayed.
Apparently, the team will first start distributing the device in China to see the reaction from Sony. If everything goes well, it should be out by next month...
If they get no reaction from Sony and the feedback from the market in Asia then they will release in Europe and wait for the next release which may arrive in the next few days.
The reason why they did this is because its best for the end users and the resellers so they don’t end up with a semi functional product.

Here is the message received by reseller's from the 3k3y team:
"The 3k3y for PS3 should be out in January 2013. The team is hard at work trying to get key extaction up and running so that the device will be available for all users regardless of what software version they are on."
There you have it. Just be patient and stay tuned for it!

"** Currently firmware 3.55 is required for exctracting the drive key. Once the key has been extracted the PS3 can be updated to any official or custom firmware. We are working on hardware methods for extracting keys from PS3's already on 4.x firmware."

if you don't have anything constructive to say, STFU!
how do we connect the 2 long 'above' sockets and the plastic cable and plug in into main board PS3 which was have a width socket ?
FAT motherboard.
FAT BD-ROM cable with width socket
SLIM motherboard PS3
BDROM CABLE with width socket
----------------------------
inside demo video 3k3y, you can see in the right above ps3, there was 2 plastics WIDTH cable plug in into a little mainboards, and the width is short not long as we can see inside the motherboards 3k3y ps3, "above 2 long sockets".
also in motherboards 3k3y ps3, there was 2 USB connection in the right, but if you could see in demo 3k3y video, the USB connection is in the left.
FAKE FAKE FAKE DEVICE !!
to see the mainboard 3k3y ps3 with 2 long sockets, there is no way can be connect to mainboard PS3 or BD-ROM with have a width socket.
it sounds this 3k3y ps3 is a FAKE device, because in China, there is no supply of 3k3y ps3 in China market, until now. (only in some sites)
just wait,
January 2013 stocks in China, right ?
I bet in January 2013 will be delay again until Februari 2013 and so on, delay again until March 2013 and so on ......
then PS4 will be release, and still 3k3y ps3 no exist
I don't really see how this would sell in China, especially if you have to be on 3.55 to get the key. It's been a few years since I've been to either Hong Kong or Mainland China, but the last time I was there you could walk into any one of a dozen mom & pop electronics shop at the mall & pick up an already modified console as well as a stack of burned discs (this is back in the PS2/Xbox days). It would seem more efficient for the shops to just sell PS3's with custom firmware if they already have to downgrade them.
This is most likely going to be like xbox where theres 2 types one for slim and one for phat. And this is not fake, emulation is pretty easy for these people to make as they did on xbox.
According to the picture of the PCB it's only for phat consoles? Slim consoles don't have the wide connector on the motherboard...
The cable could easily be one size at one end and another at the other and come with two kinds (or as many as needed per PS3 model). The device is real, there is no questioning that and if you are do your homework. I've been given the green light to do an old fashioned ISO-420 Review of the device; however I do not have a CFW PS3 and will have to wait for their other solution currently being worked on to extract the keys (or so I am told - I am not in direct contact with the team (for obvious reasons)).
I think the fact the site was not taken down points to Sony's state of concern regarding the device. This is not to say they will try to seize bulk importers shipments and arrest them. Testing the sale of the device in a piracy prone area is most likely not the best idea to make sure Sony isn't going to have whomever overseas international shipments in your country grab your package. The real "test" will begin when it ships to global resellers especially those in locations where devices with such purposes are illegal (the USA and UE being the two largest entities).
Personally, I do not see it in it's current state much a threat to Sony due to it only caters to the very slim percentage of PS3 users whom utilize CFW and from what I've seen most of these users have no interest in the device due to it's lack of functionality they are used to, but I would gladly install this on a CFW machine and then upgrade to utilize the features lost with the use of CFW that are restored using this device; mainly the ability to use OFW which is why I upgraded my CFW machine in the first place as CFW for myself serves little to no purpose. This however is not the case for everyone. Until the 3K3Y Team releases a solution to probe the PS3 and capture the necessary keys for it to function I do not see it posing a threat to anyone nor making any type of marginal profit.

Reason: small errors
thanks for the news, hope they will found the way to get the drive key without having to go back to the 3.55 firmware !
I knew most likely it will need a hardware addon but it's better !
Like so we could "may be" get the first hack for the 3K models !!! (they have the same type of BluRay drive !!!)

Indeed the updated news is fantastic. I'm glad it didn't take that long for them to figure out how to dump the keys without using the 3.55 firmware as this will open up their market to a much wider audience and actually contribute to the growth of the scene!
