Edge sources: PS4 to launch in Europe until 2014

Console will let you record gameplay and share it online

Edge has published an article detailing the PS4/Orbis.
According to them, the console will launch in Japan and the US by the end of 2013 but will not be released in Europe until 'early 2014'.

Following the teaser by Sony inviting gamers to see the future of PlayStation on Feb. 20, Edge has published a report sharing a few more details on the PlayStation 4/Orbis possible launch and specs.

The info actually matches previous reports about the next generation console. But there's some new details:

• According to its sources, the new console will launch in Japan and the US by the end of 2013 but will not be released in Europe until "early 2014". Apparently, the rumoured delay is due to "the complexities involved in European distribution".

• Also, it looks like the PS4 controller's rumored "Share" button will allow gamers to publish screenshots and video across the Internet. The PS4 hardware will constantly record the most recent 15 minutes of gameplay (at no processing cost), which gamers can then edit and share...

"A new Share button on the controller will, when pressed, launch a new feature that will allow screenshots and video to be distributed online. The PS4 hardware will continually record the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action (with no processing penalty, claims our source), which users will then be able to edit and broadcast via the Internet."

• The sources also suggest the PS4's new controller, will feature a rear touchpad based on the PS Vita's existing technology.

Edge also claims that the PS4 will ship with "a redesigned controller which is the same size as an existing DualShock but features a small touchpad in place of the existing Select, Start and PS buttons".

"The tech is based on Vita's rear touchpad, and is similarly responsive in use," the publication claimed.

• Seems that a new version of the PlayStation Eye peripheral will also be released with the PS4, and it will be compatible with existing PlayStation Move controllers.

• And finally, the console will boast 4GB of RAM, but Sony could possibly go for 8GB in a final configuration, noting it will be capable of moving data at 176GB per second.

One source reportedly familiar with both the Xbox 720 and PS4 told Edge that Sony's console will be "slightly more powerful" and "very simple to work with," though the differences between the two will be as negligible as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

True to form Sony will ensure Europeans are last to the party and will pay a higher price for the hardware compared to Americans/Japanese. Sigh!
