After months of being sued, now geohot can get his life back. Official statement from SCEA below:

Joint Statement

Sony Computer Entertainment America (“SCEA”) and George Hotz (“Hotz”) today announced the settlement of the lawsuit filed by SCEA against Hotz in federal court in San Francisco, California. The parties reached an agreement in principle on March 31, 2011. As part of the settlement, Hotz consented to a permanent injunction.

Both parties expressed satisfaction that litigation had been quickly resolved. “Sony is glad to put this litigation behind us,” said Riley Russell, General Counsel for SCEA. “Our motivation for bringing this litigation was to protect our intellectual property and our consumers. We believe this settlement and the permanent injunction achieve this goal.”

“It was never my intention to cause any users trouble or to make piracy easier,” said Hotz, “I’m happy to have the litigation behind me.” Hotz was not involved in the recent attacks on Sony’s internet services and websites.

In the action, SCEA accused Hotz of violating federal law by posting online information about the security system in the PlayStation 3 videogame console and software that SCEA claimed could be used to circumvent the security system in the console and allow the playing of pirated videogames. Hotz denies any wrongdoing on his part. Hotz’s motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction was still pending before the federal court in San Francisco but a preliminary injunction was issued requiring Hotz to take down the postings challenged by SCEA.

“We want our consumers to be able to enjoy our devices and products in a safe and fun environment and we want to protect the hard work of the talented engineers, artists, musicians and game designers who make PlayStation games and support the PlayStation Network,” added Russell. “We appreciate Mr. Hotz’s willingness to address the legal issues involved in this case and work with us to quickly bring this matter to an early resolution.”

So what the man himself has to say about this? Well, it seems he rather not to talk about it too much for the fact that his bank accounts are now worth billions, thanks to Sony.

The terms of the settlement agreement are “confidential” and the matter requires that they be “confidential”.

Your rights and my rights are two very different things.

Wonder what the settlement was mmmmmm
    Job Maybe ????

help us stop it happening on the ps4 ???? who knows
but now the chains have been removed let the scene move forward with the speed it did when it first started

  • aruen91 April 12, 2011

So does this mean Sony won?… and that we as customers have no right to put our home-brew on our hardware that we all personally own?… if this is all i can say is gimp….

  • DCJoeDog April 12, 2011

he sold us out, plain and simple. Things like this only go confidential when one or both parties agreed to something that would ruin their reputation, and in this case EGO-Hot sold us out. He is a piece of shit.

    • ak-47 April 12, 2011

wow i had a fear that something like this gonna happen thats why 3.60 not coming out cause the only one who could get the keys was hotz so for now on i think that this means farewell cfw…!what a f@king traidor

    • OverSoft April 12, 2011

Easy to say that isn’t it?
It’s not YOUR ass on the line now is it?

He didn’t sell us out, heck, he was one of the founders of the community! Without his help, you’d have NOTHING to bitch about on the PS3, because their wouldn’t be a JB…

      Spoiled little brat…

      • anonym April 13, 2011

well he was the one that did the jailbreak you dumbass and had the keys so shut the f@k up he could do that anonymous but he didnt so we didnt ask for…of course we where waiting for something like that he hacked it sony didnt give in and now hes helping them well sounds really cheap to me DIE SONY!who cares what you say moron you live in fake world and if my ass where on the line i know i had support on my back there are so manny people who support the jailbreak u dont sell the people who support you or the hacking team out thats all i have to say rather you aggree or not this is my opinion

      • anonym April 13, 2011

this is a hacking site so we dont need traidors and we dont need day wannabes today you are with the hacking scene and tommorow you are with mr. law and order what so ever!

  • Warning April 12, 2011

I wonder what this means for fail0verflow and graf.

    • Brandon April 12, 2011

It means that if Geohot can settle out, so can they. He sold himself out, not anyone else, probably because he actually faced real jail time. Sony realized they made a bad move at the same time. So they reached some agreement, but that means that everyone else could too. However, I don’t believe that Sony is going to continue their raging cycle over the PS3. So both sides conceded. I don’t believe he was given a job, otherwise he wouldn’t be going to the boycott. He probably said keep all my shit, whatever, idc, and in turn it makes you guys look like good guys again.

      • ShineHead April 12, 2011

You do not go to jail in a civil case.

        • Brandon April 13, 2011

I know, I was using that as an example. I’m just saying that he probably faced something major and bitched out.

  • beddua April 12, 2011

İ would have done the same thing, why should he risk to get in debt that he couldnt pay in 2 lifes ?

  • bert April 12, 2011

Does this mean that OtherOS will be added back ?

    http://geohot.com/
    … snip …
“What if SCEA tries to settle?
Lets just say, I want the settlement terms to include OtherOS on all PS3s and an apology on the PlayStation blog for ever removing it. It’d be good PR for Sony too, lord knows they could use it. I’m also willing to accept a trade, a legit path to homebrew for knowledge of how to stop new firmwares from being decrypted.”
    … snip …

    • DCJoeDog April 12, 2011

Do you honestly think he asked for this. Of course not, he took the get out of jail card and kept running. He sold us out, and now we don’t own our own hardware, welcome to the sorry state we now live in. Where TOSs and EULAs rule the land.

      • barrybarryk April 12, 2011

not to mention that even including an injunction in the settlement means he doesn’t give a fuck about the freedom of information

  • Warning April 12, 2011

After reading the legal documents, it seems that Geohot is no longer allowed to use a ps3 or any other Sony product in a way it was not intended. With this decision he also has finished the case against the other defendants. HECTOR MARTIN
    CANTERO; SVEN PETER; and DOES
    1 through 100

Geohot not only saved himself, but also the other parties being sued by Sony.

  • d4rk003 April 12, 2011

how do you guys know he sold us out where youre there at the court when the agrement was made be gratefull that he made the jailbroken firmware for the ps3 that lead to kmeaw 3.55 and every singleone out there

    • barrybarryk April 12, 2011

Well I wouldn’t go so far as to say he sold us out. But there was definitely some skin saving involved.

As bert quotes from geos site:“What if SCEA tries to settle?
Lets just say, I want the settlement terms to include OtherOS on all PS3s and an apology on the PlayStation blog for ever removing it. It’d be good PR for Sony too, lord knows they could use it. I’m also willing to accept a trade, a legit path to homebrew for knowledge of how to stop new firmwares from being decrypted.”

I doubt he even argued for otherOS to return as anyone who really believes in the freedom of information would never have allowed an injunction as they’re particularly harmful to the free flow of information and only serve corporate interests in hiding secrets irrespective of the information involved and it’s importance.

  • WAZ April 12, 2011

@DCJoeDog Who is this we that Geo sold out? what have you done for the scene dumb faggit? Geo has done more for the scene than anyone. Geo did what he had to do.

    • DCJoeDog April 12, 2011

How’s his cock taste like? I’m asking since you love sucking on it so much. LMAO

      • Uradick April 12, 2011

        Real mature.

        • Dark Scyth April 12, 2011

Don’t you realize this is the world we live in. If you don’t agree with the other person it somehow makes you ignorant and a moron. Let me see if I can reproduce what just happened “Waaahh you have different opinions than me so instead of listening to it i’m just gonna act like an unintelligent cockface and try to bitch my reasons over yours.” I think that about sums it up.

  • CrUmp April 12, 2011

    this is basically sony saying

ok, i’ve made my point, and you spent alot of money for this. if you agree that you will not continue to hack my ps3, we can stop all this. and here is your check. let’s make this look better for me, don’t let me lose too much face….

geohot is not allow to hack sony’s product, but it’s just him. if other people do it, sony is free to sue them. but I don’t see why sony’s willing lose face again.

I don’t know why some people think geohot “sold” them out….who are you and where were you anyways???

  • Denny April 12, 2011

“added Russell. “We appreciate Mr. Hotz’s willingness to address the legal issues involved in this case and work with us to quickly bring this matter to an early resolution.”
remember when Hotz said “it would be fun to be on the other side” well … THIS IS IT ! he’s with them , he must have a contract with them , something about “secured future” I suppose , who knows .. wait till anonymous hack Sony’s files and give us details :D

  • JFK_1337 April 12, 2011

He didn’t really sell out Even so in the situation he was in His ego may or may not have gotten the best of him but in his situation there was no “Right” way of going about the case if he had “Real” money things might have Ended differently but i think he made the right Choice because the Greedy Fiends That are SCEA have all Means to find and Destroy/Ruin anything in its way and be a Hacker myself if they said something around the lines of “Look we Have all The Means necessary To take you out of This race and your Friendly little “Hobby” of hacking will be a Thing of The Past” then i would stop. Remember even if he sold out especially if They for some reason “Payed” him off, then the Battle can be one another day. That said George Hotz, On behalf of all Hackers We thank you For your Heroic Endeavor, Even though it was Failed from the start it takes a Noble Man to stand up for his Beliefs. Thank you

    • Geekoid April 17, 2011

Can you stop “quoting” “words” “all” “the” “time” “please?” Do you also “air quote” when you talk face to face with others?

  • IntelMiner April 12, 2011

Jesus christ, he agrees to an NDA for a while about the terms of settlement, and everyone goes BAWWWW HE SOLD OUT HES SUCH A CUNT WAAAH

Seriously, I doubt he’d ever sell us out, if for no other reason than we paid his legal fees |:

Also if Sony puts OtherOS back, and it gets posted here, I’m gonna bring a dump truck of I told you so right here

  • ImaginaryJesuses April 12, 2011

If geohot wanted the “scene” to be cool with him caving he should have put as one of his stipulations that sony could not go after any of the ips they collected from his site/videos.

the only good thing that came from this was that in the legal sense if he did go all the way and lost then it would have set a legal president for the cunts (previously known as sony) and other cunt-y companies to go after everyone they want.

  • Rigo April 12, 2011

If he sold out not is not the point. You don’t face Jail time in a civil case. He would be screwed financially his whole life. I think its shitty but, its nice to talk shit when you’re not the one in the line of fire.

I would put money most of the people commenting would sell out like bitch real quick. If they were facing a lawsuit that would cripple them financially for the rest of their life.

  • CrUmp April 12, 2011

I think getting out of this is the best result because no one saw the lawsuit coming at the first place…. Seriously, do you really expect geohot to fight against sony in court endlessly? if sony wanna sue anyone else, that’s another story. you should be grateful that he got off the case, because that shows sony don’t have any ground standing their case against hackers. if they do, why would they wanna settle?

    • ShineHead April 12, 2011

The law suit would not have been endless. Money was taken under the pretense of setting a president to free all consumer goods. Hotz has not done that so its fraud. Sony would have lost anyway.

      • CrUmp April 13, 2011

Yea sony would have lost, and then what? geohot countersuit sony? and start everything over again? if geohot has billion dollars and nothing better to do, that’s ok. or if there is a “sue sony fund”, sure.

  • jmslondon April 12, 2011

I can understand why he did it, but you just have to take one look at the reasons he gave for wanting our donations, especially the line “Together, we can help fix the system” to realize that none of us really got what we were donating towards…

    • omg April 12, 2011

      All the money wasted..

  • bert April 12, 2011

    new update on http://geohotgotsued.blogspot.com/

“As of 4/11/11, I am joining the SONY boycott. I will never purchase another SONY product.

I encourage you to do the same. And if you bought something SONY recently, return it.

Why would you not boycott a company who feels this way (http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=sony_bullshit) about you?

There is much more to come on this blog”

  • kyruss April 12, 2011

he got paid, he sold out. if i got offered massive amounts of money to stop, I would and I have honor. yes even honor has a price tag on it. money talks, bullshit walks and George is set for life.

he did what he had to do to secure his own future. can you blame him? In this “me now” generation, where would he be when the ps3 is dead and buried like all systems before it?

George did what every single one of you would do in his place. Get over your emo selves.

  • iminertia April 13, 2011

EGOHOT is a lil bitch! nuff said!

  • Pinco Pallo April 13, 2011

He just did what you and me would, he’s just a normal kid. The problem is that everybody (me included) started to see him as some sort of a hero, and he posed himself as such.
I honestly believe that, if he wanted, he could of made it. But; hey?! He’s just a normal kid. Why bothering with court cases and lawyers, when I can get all the donation money and make a nice trip to Argentina?! ;)

  • Spletcher April 16, 2011

No there’s no Honor, everything he did for us was in vien and has no meaning in his action, geohotz is a fucking SELL_OUT! no matter how you look at it

  • Nick April 24, 2011
