With a new 'haircut', 'Facebook' as past history, 'Geohot' looks to the future, and gives an interview with 'Wired'
It seems 'Geohot' is missing the drama of the 'scene' after being banned from touching a Sony product again,
but the world-famous hacker sees hope of his great return due the on-going DMCA Jailbreaking deliberations!
As most of you know by now, 'Geohot' is famous for being the first 'iPhone' Jailbreaker, and then later on the 'PS3' Jailbreaker, only to stop his warpath against evil corp. after being forced to settle out of court with Sony, and part of that large still sealed agreement with them was to never touch a Sony product again, but he thinks there might be a way out for him to be able to return to the 'scene' with all its drama and problems, as remember he donated the remaining funds from his 'defense fund' to EFF and they are now busy fighting the big lobby groups this year in regard to DMCA exceptions that currently are under review, which for now only allow iPhone Jailbreak'ing but not 'Video Gaming Consoles', so being fresh out of a job after quitting Facebook, and sporting a new 'hairdo', Mr. George Hotz, (aka) Geohot, has given a recent interview with the Wired mag, where he stated:
he's awaiting for a decision by federal copyright regulators that, for the first time ever, could legalize videogame-console jailbreaking...
That, Geohot thinks, might let him “jailbreak” the PlayStation again, freeing it for the world of tinkerers to use as they wish, the same way that a decision in 2010 to allow mobile phone users to liberate their smartphones to run whatever programs they like bolstered a vibrant alternative to the tightly constrained and capriciously run Apple App Store.
“I would really like to get back into that scene,” Hotz said in a recent telephone interview.
As you may know, copyright regulators decreed that it was finally legal to “jailbreak” smartphones so, iPhone users can now install apps that Apple didn’t approve.
Today, there are more than 1 million jailbroken iPhones using a third-party app store called Cydia, and Apple has incorporated into its mobile operating system many of the same tweaks that came out of a freedom it said would doom its business model. Those promised cyberattacks never came and, clearly, Apple’s mobile business is thriving, helping push the company’s stock to stratospheric levels
However, under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, it’s still unlawful to hack a gaming console or a tablet like the iPad.
That might soon change under proposed exemptions offered by the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
“It doesn’t make any sense,” Geohot says, “why iPhone jailbreaking is OK, but not for video games.”
So, what do you think?

It has been very silent recently in 'mmCM' updates, but we have good news today, developers behind 'Team Cobra' have contacted us and shared with us what they been working on since March, and it is is awesome, basically a full featured desktop enviroment called 'mmOS' to replace the old multiman file manager.
Click on the above picture, for a jaw-dropping HD screenshot of 'mmOS' in action, and after your jaw lifts off the keyboard, see below some of it's features:
- supports 8 windows with up to 4096 entries per folder
- double-click to launch video/music/picture/games...
- single-click to multiple-select for copy/move
- desktop icons for fast access to various options/functions
- (shortcuts for showtime, games, themes, user created shortcuts)
This is just a hint of what is coming in the next big update, so we can't wait to see 'mmOS' all completed and fully in action with its many new jaw-dropping features on our PS3 consoles, and it might not be too long either as the developers are hinting at before this month's end for a big release, so this is already heating up to be nice hot summer for us Jailbreak Sony PS3 owners!
And remember as usual stay tuned to @PS3Crunchnet for the very latest in 'scene' newz!

Place the necessary pkg file in the root of an empty USB flash dongle, and install like any other pkg.
1. Place pkg on USB flash dongle.
2. Select “memdump” icon.
3. Select type of dump to perform once loaded.
The following buttons are mapped in the user interface:
△ Dump LV1 memory
◯ Dump LV2 memory

☐ Dump eEID storage
SELECT cycle menus
UP cycle menus
DOWN cycle menus
LEFT cycle menus
RIGHT cycle menus
START exit

Testing:
memdump is known to work on CEX or DEX PS3s running firmware versions above 2.70,
with or without OtherOS++ patches.
Bug Reports:
To submit a report of a bug, please join #memdump on EFNet, and have the log file ready.

Updated from 1.0 to 2.0.3, with lots of new features added, like direct extract to PS3 via FTP
Corwin75 continues to improve his new 'True Blue Patch Viewer' and this update makes it even more user-friendly for all TB users.
This update makes it now worthwhile to use as v2.0.3 can dowload the very lastest in EBOOT patches, along with the TB firmware updates, and it now has no download limits, does automatic updates, displays server status, and you can even extract the download directly to your PS3 via FTP to your HDD's.
Below you can check a small tutorial on using the new 'extract to PS3' feature and the changelog for this new version 2.0.3:
Here is a brief explanation on how to use the True Blue Patch Viewer 2.0.3:
- Download the True Blue Patch Viewer and then start
- (If you just want to download the patch on your PC, this tutorial is not for you)
- Connect your PS3 CFW then link to your PC Connection Sharing
- Then launch your FTP server then connect to Anonymous
- Then choose "PS3" from the drop down
- On the True Blue patch viewer enter the IP of your PS3 as: 192.168.x.xx
- Then choose if you want to transfer to your external hard drive or internal
Crédit: Corwin75 Powered By: Games-hack.fr
Changelog:
Features 1.0:
- 4 downloads allowed and then you have to wait an hour before they can re-download
- Constant update of software to each release of new patches
- Download the latest firmware update for dongle True Blue
- Description and display the cover of the patch
- Direct download links
Features 2.0.3:
- Download limit removed
- Download the True Blue CFW
- Choice ranking order of the patches
- Ability to search a patch directly from the software
- Send and extraction patches directly on the PS3 in the game folder (Compatible with internal & external hard drive) BETA
- Simplified extraction when extracting on PC
- Visualization of the region of the patch when selected
- Automatic Update
- Server Status
Personally. in testing this update I found the 'server overloaded', of course with the those hot 10 new releases last night, no wonder why.
For no server problems I suggest people just use: PS3SceneFiles

It been a while since we reported on the development progress of the improved 'scetool' by 'naehrwert' but recently he released v0.2.7 with some minor tweaks, that has been possible for 'naehrwert' to complete with the great help of 'flat_z' another developer that been working on figuring out how to decrypt tough things like the second part 'eid0' on the PS3 console.
Changelog 0.2.7:
- Added local NP license handling.
- Added option to override klicensee.
- Added option to disable section skipping (in SELF generation).
Now remember this tool is only useful to those exploring the 'inner' workings of the PS3 firmware and its packages, but it is always good to see someone continue the work originally started by 'Team fail0verflow' that disappeared after the first Sony lawsuits.
Released with many thanks to 'flat_z' help on tweaking 'scetool' to be even more amazing!
