I thought it would be nice to compile a list of various patched HEX files and the boards they will work on of PSGroove for your PS3 console. Please feel free to submit others HEX file to me through comments or just by emailing it to me. There are no copies of the Backup Manager to be included here, ONLY the hex files.
To all of you who are helping me out, I will post your files to the post here as it will filled with questions and may get hard to look for other things as well.
Thanks to esco786, DJLO, KaKaRoTo, remainnameless, djpopol, xoeo, Cyberskunk/Evilsperm, iLLNESS for the following.
PSGroove / PSGrade Hex Files Download Area
Just in case anyone is wondering which one to download based on their USB-Based Microcontrollers (MCU):
UPDATE: The latest compiled hexes for PL3 and Hermes v4b are available. Check if the following hexes are correct for each of your device, if does not please report back to me.
UPDATE 2: I have updated Hermes v4b payload hexes files with the latest ports including the PSN Online exploit and FW3.50 spoof, please check it out!
UPDATE 3: Updated the table with an extra column for the Xoeo and CE-X hybrid (PL3/Hermes) payload including PSN Online exploit and FW3.50 spoof. Available for firmware 3.15 and 3.41.
UPDATE 4: Updated the table with the compiled HEX’s for PSGrade (downgrading the console FW up until 3.50 by using factory/service mode + SELF files + modified PUP : {torrent /
magnet}) as released by PS3Yes (1st ZIP file, if available), Evilsperm (2nd ZIP file) and others. Only for downgrading, not related to Jailbreaking or the other 3 columns of Payloads.
Differences between the DEF/DEV/NOUNAUTH builds of PL3:
- DEF = Default payload. (most managers need this build)
- DEV = Payload with peek+poke used for development.
- NOUNAUTH = Payload that behaves similar to Hermes and fixes controller issues. (Deprecated, use only if having problems.)
[table id=6 /]
Tip: #
In case you have forgotten which payload you currently have in your JailBreaking device: you can check it with Dean’s MultiMAN, previously named AVCHD+Game Manager (in Option screen [press L2 @ Main Screen]) and Rogero Manager (bottom right in mainscreen).

awesome work bro, appreciate your work!
so, when using the Maximus v1.2, I should use the PSGrooPIC hex files right?
It depends if your Maximus v1.2 = ATMEL AT90USB162 or Microchip PIC18F4550 based. On MaxAvrBlog (http://www.maxavrusb.blogspot.com/) they have hermesv4b for both models, while the link (http://www.mediafire.com/?crek8st7r5lsmu2) I posted earlier is PL3 for Atmel based Maximus v1.2. For PL3 on PIC18Fx550 based Maximus v 1.2 you can use PSGrooPIC_V2.01 (http://psgroopic.blogspot.com/)
Hope this helps you xiaoie

About the PSN patch… it’s not proper. It’s very easy to implement in PL3 using my ‘configurable’ syscall 867 hook I pushed a few days ago.
The patch is included in v1.5, but maybe it wasn’t a good idea :/ Anyway, I added it because of what Sony did to us with OtherOs.
I want both Linux and PSN, not just one of them. I want the features that I paid. Finally I can enjoy my PS3 at 100%!

The AVRKEY firmware HERMES v4B (PSN/3.50) have lot of problems, POWER+EJECT problem, after using it few times it refuse to work. I try another firmware from other webpage and it work perfect, no more problems when apply POWER+EJECT.
Thanks for reporting
Do you know for which HEX i best replace it with? (e.g. the one you now use succesfully, url of the board/downloadlink)
I found that the one in this webpage work perfect (the lights are diferent scheme) http://www.playstationclub.nl/hextest/ http://www.theplaystationclub.com/files/Hermes/AVRKEY.zip
I’ve added that file as alternative for the AVRKey

Will this get ported to iPod Video 5.5g?
You have to ask the Rockbox developers that
Hey, where did all the minimus 32 payloads go?
I’m using the AVRKey hex which works, but I only get one green LED on.
I’ve reuploaded both “Hermes v4 / 3.41 / No PSN access / FW 3.50 spoof” and “PL3 for 3.15/3.41 – 3.50 spoof – no PSN” for Minimus32 ATMEGA32U2 (16 Mhz) 32k
Please let me know if it works OK (or not)
euss,
I have a FAT PS3 with my dear FW 3.15 plus an AVRKEY. I did some tests today and here are the results
kakaroto PL3: KaKaRoTos-PL3-AVRKEY-ATMEGA32U2.zip
>> console doesn’t boot up
HERMES v4B (PSN/3.50): hermes_v4b_avrkey_working_led.zip
>> console doesn’t boot up
XOEO CE-X HYBRID (xoeo-cyberskunk-evilsperm-hybrid-AVRKEY.zip)
>> OK!
However the PL3 compiled HEX files from your October 24th post (psgroove_avrkey_atmega32u2_16mhz_20102310.zip) works for me.
The hex file in your KaKaRoTos-PL3-AVRKEY-ATMEGA32U2.zip file dates from October 18th. Is this the latest built code?
Keep up the good work with your Hex Collection!
Cheers.
Hermes is only for FW 3,41, so if your console is on 3.15, it doesn’t work (which is correct)
So I don’t see anything to fix for Hermes.
Xoeo / Ce-X, only XOEO is for FW 3.15 (which you say works, is correct), the CE-X is for FW 3.41 (which should not work on FW 3.15). Nothing to fix for Xoeo / CE-X too.
PL3…. I will look in to that right now (enabled links in your 11-dec-2010 reply, for others to easy find/download)
About those build dates @PL3 :
October 18th HEX = PSGroove KaKaRoTo PL3 / Tree: 614cdb6 e7d2d5bc400b39b5bd9585cba43ab80d6 / PL3-Tree: 74d294f e14610060ddb903a209ecd90b35daf799 (plain PL3)
October 24th HEX = PSGroove KaKaRoTo PL3 / Tree: 614cdb6 e7d2d5bc400b39b5bd9585cba43ab80d6 / PL3-Tree: 43b72b2 a6889d265a790b62e46f142f550688f57 (PL3 with 80010019 Error Fix + disables the patch for unauthorized syscalls [patched mode])
edit: I made a collection of several AVRKEY builds (and exchanged the PL3′s in above table).
AVRKEY pack (all kinds of payloads): avrkey_atmega32u2_16mhz-payload-pack-[12122010].rar (228.86 KB) (contains PSGroove, Hermes for FW 3.41 and PL3 for FW 3.01, 3.10, 3.15, 3.41)
mikegyver : Because your console is FW 3.15 (as are mine) you won’t find Hermes working on your console (his payload only works on FW 3.41). So you gonna need PL3 (FW 3.01, 3.10, 3.15, 3.41) or Xoeo (FW 3.15). Because PSN is patched by Sony anyway, there is no need for a PSN enabled/3.50 spoof build. Imo only the ’80010019 Error Fix’ is usefull in help of getting those 3.41++ games to work, spoofing 3.50 doesn’t make games suddenly play that previously didn’t. (if you are on 3.15 some games won’t work anyhow, unless you upgrade to 3.41 but loose OtherOS etc). For this reason I just live with the loss of those games that won’t work because I’m stubborn to stay on 3.15′s. For me personally having 3.15′s is way too important. Maybe if I want those 3.42/3.50/3.55 games to work I will get another console just for that.
euss,
The compiled version from the 23th October works fine for me, but not the version you have in your Hex file collection table.
exchanged the PL3′s from AVRKEY collection in my previous reply in the HEX table
thanks for your feedback
Euss you’re a legend
can you add the
port1_descriptor_config.bin
for PSGrade
please add this usb dongle to your library
PSJailbreaker
Compile descriptor.h and you should have it; but a bare BIN isn’t very usefull unless your dongle knows howto import RAW payload BINs (like Eclips3 can). Second, the PSGrade isn’t a PSgroove payload, so generic psgroove payload importers will simply not work (importing descriptor.bin just results in an error). That is the reason why you read so many people requesting it, but not USING it.
Thirdly: the PSJailBreaker manual states 3840 bytes, but that size is old. Current PL3 states ‘USB config descriptor’ size is 4096 bytes. So importing modern larger payloads will not work with the PSJailBreaker Updater ‘PSflash12.exe’. That donglemaker better make sure their updater software get’s updated or future PL3 builds cannot even be used on that dongle.
If you wish to update the microcontroller on the PSJailbreaker dongle with a DFU compatible bootloader or any HEX, you can use ISP, pinouts and guide can be found here: http://payloadinjector.altervista.org/. If you do that, you can use generic Atmel FLIP, without depending on updates of the dongle manufacturer (he doesn’t even have FW 3.15 PL3/Xoeo) and able to use any scene HEX compiled for ATmega16A 16MHz 16KB.
PL3 Payloads:
DEF = Default payload. (Use this.)
DEV = Payload with peek+poke used for development.
NOUNAUTH = Payload that behaves similar to Hermes and fixes controller issues. (Deprecated, use only if having problems.)
Yes,.e.g. for Gaia Manager you really need the correct PL3 build (they warn you even for it on their homepage).
For Acid-CFW, Mount Alejandro and FreeFlash you’ll need a peek/poke enabled payload.
Added it for clarity above the table, in case anyone wonders which PL3 to flash.
Thanks Jason
In case anyone wants 3.55 Spoof: http://ps3crunch.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/355_SPOOF_3.41.zip (credits to Cyberskunk)
Does nothing for PSN/Netflix, GT5 or any game requiring higher firmware versions. Only cosmetic patch to disable the update prompt on FW 3.41.
would please add x3max payloads and fw files .. thanks in advance
Added downgraders for X3Max and E3 Card Reader.
Firmwares and Downgrade Guide.
thx for the downgrade.. any payloads ( hermes, and PL3 ) please?
There are no specific payloads for X3max since Programming Tool v2.0 afaik. Just use the payload importer for the HEX files allready supplied.
its supports mostly (hermes payload) when i use any PL3 payload .. it shows the JB as unknown device in the ps3.. and some games require PL3 to load like burnout paradise. if anyone could use PL3 please comment and tell which hex he used. thanks again
I get good results with http://ps3crunch.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Teensy-2.01.zip on my Eclipse with Gaia Manager with Burnout Paradise, should work on a X3max too
tried it.. i got the “unknown USB device been connected” error.. and game doesn’t appear under /app_home/PS3_GAME/ , although the ps3 was jailbroken, cause homebrew are working.
thanks for the files
i have a question though, since i’m a noob in this ps3 jailbreaking world lol
i *unfortunately* happen to have a fake PS3Break USB dongle, the one that have “Driver V3.1″ written on it
when i put it on my pc, it detects it as AT90USB162
and i tried to flash it through Atmel Flip with Hermes v4b which i got from another site.
it works (though i don’t really sure what the difference is), but the LED doesn’t lit
so which hex file would be best for my dongle?
oh and actually i’m trying to flash my dongle because i can’t run Star Ocean even though i have copied it into my internal hdd
(it always stuck on 8% during installation), can anyone help me with this too?
thanks a lot for your help
I would recommend either Olimex AVR USB (AT90USB162 8MHz) or Teensy1.0 (AT90USB162 16MHz) – I’m unsure at this moment what speed your microcontroller runs.
Star Ocean the Last Hope International only runs from internal. I would recommend either HermesV4 or PL3 DEF and Gaia Manager.
Although diskless works with HermesV4 and modern PL3 DEF, I would recommend to just insert any original disc and use the normal disc method for higher compatibility.
oh thanks,
by the way, i just realized the one i’m using now is HermesV4b for Teensy 1.0 (AT90USB162 16Mhz),
it works okay, except for the LED. should i try the Olimex AVR one or just stick with this?
oh and i’ve got star ocean running, it was really stupid because i just have to copy it with comgenie, not gaia and om :p
Unless you get annoyed by non working LEDs, there is no reason to change the HEX.
The payload (working code) is the same, so the compatibility is also the same.
No need to exchange it for Olimex AVR imo (and certainly not if the 16MHz Teensy is working)
hi euss,
do you think you could make a tutorial in compiling a hex?
coz i have been searching around for xoeo’s PL3 compiled for atmega168.
cheers.
@bing: Maybe this is enough guidance: http://ps3.ha.cr/2010/10/02/hack-my-ps3/
thanks euss, i think that is good enough for me to start/learning compiling hex.
